JJ Ohana is a great little gift/snack shop in Hanapepe. The have nice gifts for reasonable prices and the staff is very, very sweet and helpful. They sell a great selection of Ni' ihau shell jewelry with certificates of authenticity. I know, my mom bought me one for Christmas and I love it!! Definitely worth stopping in.

While traveling, I always make it a point to visit a local bookstore. If possible, I find one with a great story and Talk Story may have the best narrative. It is the westernmost bookstore in the United States and the only bookstore on Kauai. It was a highlight of our visit to Hanapepe and a great way to conclude our day after hiking in the Waimea Canyon. Talk Story offers a great selection of books with a fantastic focus on Hawaii. The staff was knowledgeable and welcoming. I picked up a few books and enjoyed the time spent browsing Talk Story. If you love cats, you will appreciate Talk Story's Boss - Celeste.

Tiny little shop in the tiny Hanapepe village. If you are lucky and find the owner inside then you can enter and buy 5 different sorts of potato chips. If he's not there, well you're out of luck. Anyway, this place is definitely worth passing by. It is a gem off the beaten path, and a must if you love potato chips. We tried all different types and loved every single bite. We regret not buying more!

Jackie is a character and a sweetheart - also an outstanding seamstress who cranks out beautiful Hawaiian shirts. I'm a big guy and have a lot of inexpensive shirts that just don't fit right. She made me a great shirt that looks and fits great. You are going to pay more but they are competitive with any high end shirt (like Tommy Bahama). She'll get it done in a couple days. Lots of other hand-sewn stuff as well. Hanapepe is at little tattered and reminiscent of old Hawaii days and Jackie's shop fits right in. Say hi to the lovebirds Bougie & Bacall. Cash only for purchases.

This is a fabulous store. The Hawaiian rub, guava garlic salt and our new favorite...hawaiian curry! Stock up every year to take home for a reminder of this beautiful island. Great gifts for family and friends. We walk in and the fragarance of the spices welcome us as well as the wonderful people that work there!

Well it is not a fancy place, but the “Kookies” taste great. When you walk in there are plenty of samples. Taste them all. Hard to beat the shortbread macadamia nut.
