Isolated from the rest of Maui by a 52-mile winding drive through coastal rainforest, Hana is an unspoiled beauty dangling from the island's northeastern tip. Untamed Kahanu Garden contains the world's biggest collection of breadfruit and a lava-rock structure believed to be the largest ancient place of worship in Polynesia. Soak up the tropical splendor on beaches with red or black sand. Winter and spring bring humpback whales, visible from Hana Beach County Park.

We lead you on private tours of maui that awaken the senses, connect you to Maui and create memories that last a lifetime. Our adventurous hikes take you to private waterfalls, secluded beaches and on the famous road to hana. The most common phrase we keep hearing on our tours... "this was the highlight of our trip to Maui." Our love of Maui is contagious!! Book a trip with Epic Maui Hikes and find out why :) Established in 2015. Epic Maui Hikes started in the spring of 2015 by 2 best friends who have a love of adventure and an obsession with Maui. We love sharing what we feel with our friends and family and it naturally spread to our clients. We started this business hoping to share with tourists just how fun and adventurous they could be while still being safe. We realized that these adventurous tours and hikes that we offer are doing much more than that. There is a connection to nature that is missing in many peoples lives and this disconnect has spread to other facets of their lives. We reconnect people with nature, to themselves, to their family and friends, to joy :)

Waianapanapa State Park is on the road to Hana, Maui.
Absolutely incredible!! It's a can't miss stop. The drive in from Hana Highway is bumpy but well worth it. Go check out the massive waves at the unique black sand beach... WARNING... the waves will occasionally cover the entire sand part of the beach, so be careful where you store your towels, bags, and shoes. Go up top and see the impressive blow hole... be careful of where you choose to stand or you will get drenched. Then continue passed the blow hole and hike, yes hike, a gorgeous short trail that embodies what you think of when you think about Hawaii... lush greens and bright flowers against lava rock and ocean waves. Upon returning to the beach, don't miss the sea arch and the walk-in cave off to the right, directly on the beach.

Last week, my wife and I took a trip to Hana and continued around Maui through Kula and back to Kahului. We did the drive in our SUV but I am an avid motorcycle rider and want to give my advice to other riders. Here are my observations and advice: • Prior to trip, open Google Maps in street view at various points along the journey to get a good representation of the type of riding you will encounter. • If you able to listen to a road to Hana app while riding, I highly recommend doing it. There are several highly rated apps for purchase. We chose the GyPSyguide.com app and were extremely satisfied. If you can’t listen to an app, then I suggest you do a little homework using Maui Revealed or other resource prior to leaving to determine where you want to stop and what you want to see. • Leave early to beat the heavy traffic. It will make your trip more enjoyable. Paia by sunrise or soon thereafter would be great. • Most motorcyclists enjoy twisty roads with nice sweeping turns that can be taken in the 35 – 60 mph range. The road to Hana is more like speeds in the 20 -25 mph range with extremely tight turns in the 5-15 mph range. Great ride for scenery but probably not the most enjoyable riding you ever do. In my opinion, the most ideal motorcycle for the trip would be a mid-sized adventure bike or mid-sized scooter. • The only passing is when someone is kind enough to pull over. • Plan on rain at some point of your journey. A light weight rain suit would be advisable. • As you have probably heard, the road to Hana is all about the journey and not Hana itself. This statement is very true. Driving to Hana and back or continuing around the island is a very long day but very doable if you pace yourself a little and don’t stop at every attraction. If you plan on doing some extended hiking or explore every attraction, then you should make arrangements to stay overnight along the route. • You can choose to turn around at Hana, continue on 10 miles to the Seven Sacred Pools and turn around or continue around the island through Kula and back to Kahului. We enjoyed the drive all the way around the island. As you probably heard, the road gets bad. It is real bad (gravel and broken pavement) for about 10 miles from about Kukui’Ula Gulch to about the Nu’u Refuge. Any vehicle (including rentals) will make it fine but the road is rough. I would not recommend this journey for any large road bike or scooter. I would highly recommend it for an adventure bike. • Starting at Manuwainui Gulch, you will encounter some great motorcycle riding road. Good pavement and endless sweeping turns with little traffic. Great stuff. • Hope this helps!

Visited Red Sand Beach on the Road to Hana your (guided using the Shaka app which l highly recommend) Fantastic trail that opens out to the most beautiful cove! Take your swimwear, towel and a picnic and hangout for as long as you want! The trail is absolutely fine to walk in flip flops, just don’t run!!!

Beautiful and worth the time to check it out!! Make sure to see the small lava tube (which is on your right side if you are standing on the beach, facing the water).

After a couple of locals recommended this spot, with minimal instructions on how to find the pool, it felt like a secret adventure. We were advised to find the bridge in between 2 houses, climb over the cow gate, walk through the field and turn right at the old outdoor oven and we would find the pool. And find it we did. The colour was exquisite and locals were cliff jumping and just enjoying life. A really perfect find.
