Just come back from tobogganing and archery as a family of 4, with children aged 4 and 8. Had a great time, everything was well organised and felt Covid safe (plenty of space and fresh air outside!) My 4 year old struggled a bit with the archery and slingshots, we'd expected this and he was able to join in with adult help. It was perfect for my 8 year old (and the adults!) The hot food from the cafe after we'd finished was much appreciated! Thank you, we'll be back again!

A museum showing the development of industry in Halifax and Calderdale from domestic textile manufacture in the seventeenth century through to modern machine tools. The museum is located in the centre of Halifax, five minutes from the train station and Eureka! It is unusual in covering such a wide range of industries in one museum.
This is a late review as we visited last year but didn’t have an account on here. We really enjoyed our visit, it was educational and informative giving a real sense of the relevance of the Industrial Revolution to our local area. The two lady volunteers were friendly and enthusiastic, emphasising the importance of the museum. We enjoyed the demonstrations of the various machines, particularly the sweet wrapping one! It is vital that places such as this are preserved for future generations; it is well worth a visit to keep this living history alive.

Following a multi-million pound transformation project, Britain's last surviving cloth hall, featuring independent shops, cafes and bars, heritage visitor centre, art gallery and a spectacular events programme is now open seven days a week.
First visit to Halifax as a tourist and the day centred around the Piece Hall. What a wonderful day out and very much recommended to all. Impressive architecture, full of history. Made to feel very welcome by the good people of Halifax with plenty to see and do. We joined a free tour of the Piece Hall and our guide Pamela did a truly superb job of bringing the history to life and showing us around. The work that has been done to restore the Piece Hall is world class. There's great independant shops to visit and several very pleasant places to eat and drink including Gin Lane where we enjoyed a special Espresso Martini and Elder that provided a superb lunch which included catering perfectly for my gluten free dietry needs. Hope to visit again soon!

Set in the picturesque Shibden valley, a mile from Halifax, Shibden Hall dates back to 1420 and offers visitors a fascinating journey through the lives of the people who lived and worked here. Shibden Hall's architecture is a mix of styles reflecting its interesting and varied history. The adjacent 17th century aisled barn and workshops house a carriage collection and displays relating to different crafts, including a blacksmiths, coopers, wheelwrights and saddlers. Shibden even has a recreated brewhouse and inn. The Hall is surrounded by the beautifully restored gardens and estate that forms Shibden Park. There are a range of features and attractions, including a cafe and visitor facilities, miniature railway, boating lake, pitch & putt course as well as trails, play area, orienteering course and woodland in which to roam.
Such a wonderful place. Large well kept and interesting grounds (ancient orchard too) that you could easily spend hours in and then you have the hall and informative lovely folk museum. An extensive and educational interior especially regarding Anne Lister. A big thank you too to the very friendly volunteers who do an exceptional job! Well worth a visit.

Don't panic if the car park above Shibden is full. Down by the lake is a much larger car park which serves the Country park and it's a stroll up to the house from there. The turning into it is signposted Shibden Park. At the house itself there is also a small car parking area for blue badge holders. There are drinks and snacks available at the reception area but a proper cafe with hot and cold food, cakes, ice creams etc at the far end of the lake. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Dogs are welcome in all areas except inside the house and cafe and the children's play area, and ours thoroughly enjoyed exploring the park and woods Boats available for hire on the lakeland a miniature railway runs at peak times.

We're an award-winning children's museum in Halifax, West Yorkshire, with more than 400 interactive exhibits which inspire children aged 0-11 to learn about themselves and the world around them through imagination, discovery and, most importantly, play!
We used Tesco vouchers so should have been £61.75 for our family of 5 but we got in for 25p ! There was plenty to keep the children entertained with a whole area about the human body and how it works and loads of hands on, interactive exhibits. Snacks and drinks in the cafe seem rather pricy but meals looked reasonable value. The gift shop gives 10% off before 11am but you have to ask/remind them otherwise they will charge full price. Some of the staff are really good at interacting with the children which adds to the excitement for them. All staff are friendly and welcoming. We spent around 4 and a half hours here and could have been longer if it wasn't so warm inside.
