Haleʻiwa is a North Shore community and census-designated place (CDP) in the Waialua District of the island of Oʻahu, City and County of Honolulu. Haleʻiwa is located on Waialua Bay, the mouth of Anahulu Stream (also known as Anahulu River). A small boat harbor is located here, and the shore of the bay is surrounded by Haleʻiwa Beach Park (north side) and Haleʻiwa Aliʻi Beach Park (south side). Further west from the center of town is Kaiaka State Recreation Area on Kiaka Point beside Kaiaka Bay. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a population of 3,970. It is the largest commercial center on the North Shore of the island. Its old plantation town character is preserved in many of the buildings, making this a popular destination for tourists and residents alike, visiting surfing and diving sites along the north shore.

This location is great for children to swim.
Pupukea tide pools to the left, Shark's Cove to the right. Pools are not deep, mostly walkable - but bring water shoes. Shallow, and barefoot can hurt. Can be hard to maneuver in Snorkel gear. Saw the prettiest little Snowflake eel here, about 18 inches, lots of endemic fish. Really a great spot for kids and little ones. Shark's Cove is to the right of the restrooms. Better depth here and therefore better to Snorkel, or dive. Fish were incredibly abundant: some massive schools of 500 (or so), Green Sea Turtles, eel, and a nice array of Parrot Fish. Visibility to about 60 feet. Visited Thanksgiving week and were told to select a day with little to no surf, as it can make swimming difficult, reduce visibility and possibility cause injury. Picked the right day apparently as it was absolutely fantastic... One of the best I've experienced in the Islands. Notes: go early to get a decent parking spot. The small lot fills up early, by 10am or so. Across the street are several eateries, and a market just next door.

A popular surfing area located on the North Shore of Oahu.
Waimea valley is beautiful. The big is big and is on the 7 miles miracle, north shore in general is very nice in the winter with big waves and you can watch surfers.

We drove to this beach to see turtles that usually arrive around 11 am. The first time we went it was very cool temperatures and rain - there were two people watching for the turtles but told us most likely they would not come to shore due to the tempertures. We returned the next day and were not disappointed. Laniakea Beach has a small parking area which has you crossing a very busy road I would highly recommend going early and being patient if you want to see turtles.

We drove up here 3 times to watch the surfers. Lucked out on Monday as several of the Pros competing in the Hawaiian PRO (starts Friday) were out! Brought our snorkel gear but a local suggested we didn’t as the water in the next bay was quite murky and had a lot of debris washed down from the rivers. We decided to watch the surfers instead! Got to the parking lot early (8:30am) and people we’re starting to park along the street. It will be busy with the Hawaiian Pro on but well worth the drive!

The views are worth the mud! Took this hike the day before leaving the island. It had rained earlier in the week and that made for a very muddy trail. Make sure you bring shoes that you’re ok with being ruined (hiking boots would make better sense, but it’s Hawaii no one is traveling with hiking boots!) There are “steps” and rope to help you get up and down the trail in some parts. But after all that, the trail is almost flat and the flora changes dramatically. Once you reach the top you are rewarded with a wonderful and beautiful view of the North Shore! Coming down is also fun, go slow and watch every step. You will be muddy at the end, just go across the street for a quick shower rinse off!

Yes, this is the site of the Survivor TV show filming, but the real reason to go is a guarantee to see sea turtles feeding in the surf or resting on the beach. Not great for swimming because of all the rocks and heavy surf but no crowds and good for walking or just hanging out. First left leaving Haleiwa, right after the bus stop.

We stayed on the North Shore for three days and visited this place twice. Beautiful clear water with tons of fish...even saw an eel. Please wear water shoes as there are rocks you have to climb over to get into the water and there are sea urchins in the water as well. I have an elderly mother and she was still able to enjoy Shark's Cove. There are deeper waters for you to snorkel as well that actually has some coral at the bottom. Please be mindful not to step on them.

Such a cool and fun place to visit! Tons of little cute shops and food. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the north shore area.
