A ride from Đồng Văn to Meo Vạc on the northern rim of Hà Giang province offers the most wonderful view of an exotic karst landscape of steep limestone mountains. About halfway between the towns is the all but obligatory stop at Mã Pì Lèng, a Hmông village on a rocky slope with an amazing view of jagged, rocky peaks and a steep canyon with a narrow river running through it. There are other stunning viewpoints along the route, but this one is the best. There are a few drink stalls next to the handcraft shop on the road and a back door of the shop leads to a path a little downhill to another viewing pavilion. Sprawling on the slope, the village houses and gardens lie interspersed with dark boulders in the ground. It is typical of Hmông settlements, for they were late arrivals in Vietnam and, all the good farming land already occupied, were forced to make a living in the less favorable environments of the mountains. That they succeeded is their achievement.

This establishment is amazing in every way. Firstly I passed it on my dirt bike after a big Ha Giang Loop ride and a heard the fine tunes coming from somewhere. So I turned around, parked the bike up and walked downstairs to investigate. WOW WOW WOW.....so colourful, vibrant & welcoming and the music was uplifting. Everything about this place was appealing and then came the staff. Fantastic on every level. You honestly couldn’t ask for better service, conversations and the cocktails that Tran Tu makes and whips up are magical. Tran is a magician in disguise. The staff are so happy and passionate within what they do that you really feel like your a part of their world. This wasn’t my 1st visit as it was so good I had to go back as often as I could and hope to return sooner than later... I’d like to say a huge thank you to Tran Tu for making me feel welcome and taking an interest in my travels and asking when I’ll be bk from my Loop adventure. Also a very warm thank you to Hong Gai for our beautiful conversations and moments shared together. Much love to you both and l treasure your friendships. This establishment is most certainly a DIAMOND ???? in the rough....???????? A must see and l HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
