Gyöngyös [ˈɟøɲɟøʃ] is a town in Heves county in Hungary, 80 km (50 mi) east of Budapest. Situated at the foot of the Sár-hegy and Mátra mountains, it is the home of numerous food production plants, including milk production and sausage factories. It is also the home of many vineyards on the slopes of the Sárhegy.

The Matra Museum consists of the former Mansion of the Orczy family, a 2 hectares historic garden and a Natural History Pavilion. In the mansion shown the mammoth skeleton. In the main building of the museum four permanent exhibitions can be visited: hunting history, local history, minerals, fossils. Natural History Pavilion - There you can see the permanent exhibition of natural history.

The treasury of Saint Bertalan parish-church in Gyongyos is the second richest ecclesiastic collection in Hungary. Not only goldsmith works of great artistic value, goblets, soled crosses, shrines and images of the Lord are preserved in the treasury, but other objects, pictures, books, vestments and statues.

The monastery library - unique in the country, besides Pannonhalma has been standing on the same place since its foundation - can be found in the biggest Hungarian monastery of the Franciscan order of Gyongyos. A permanent exhibition on the life of the Franciscan Order can be visited in the entrance hall of the library.

The exhibition about numismatics named after Lajos Huszar wich has been donated by Miklos Dobal and is located at the Main square in Grassalkovich Mansion. The collection of coins and medallions tell us the thousand year history of Hungary starting with the coin of St. Istvan and ending with the recent ones.
