Rediscover the magic of a bygone era aboard the historic Mary Valley Rattler. The scenic Mary Valley is a place where you can experience the friendly laid back atmosphere of rural living at its best. The Rattler's 46 kilometre round trip starts at Gympie and after crossing over the Mary River, chugs its way rhythmically around an abundance of curves, across bridges and numerous gentle hills. Your journey passes through Dagun, home to a beautiful heritage station before continuing to the quaint community of Amamoor nestled in the centre of the Mary Valley. You'll marvel at the restored turntable installed at the Amamoor Station and fascinated by the process required to turn the locomotive around for its return to Gympie. Make sure you leave plenty of time to explore the restored Gympie Station which houses a historic display, a gift shop and a cafe offering dine in and takeaway options. The Mary Valley Rattler is more than a train ride. It's a half-day adventure into history.

All sorts of exhilbits from old Gympie. We had no idea the gold field were so extensive. There are maps and artifacts from mining, gold processing, domestic life, wartime and more. The industrious volunteers were happy to show us all sorts of things. Definately recommend this.

The Woodworks Museum and Interpretive Centre re-defines the Forestry Story through live demonstration, science-based education and state-of-the-art interpretation. You will see fascinating relics of forest history, lovingly restored and working in live demonstrations.
This museum is truely amazing. Located right at highway. Ticket is very cheap, $7/adult, my kid under 5 is free. The museum displays many different kind of wood, tools and machines. There is a giant piece of wood that more than +600 years. Can’t imagine how big this tree was. Bond museum is my most favarious part which displays human bond and animal bond. The guy working here is super friendly and useful. He explains everything very details. Basically, I have learned a lot after the visit. I think this place is very useful for education.

Farmers and Sun are a good place to visit for lunch or morning/afternoon tea.. Great service and a good variety of delicious healthy food. Hot and cold drinks are also yummy.

If the water level is good it will be great to walk around the ponds. If there hasn't been rain for quite some time it can get smelly, a good downpour can freshen them up. With seating areas, lots of shaded areas under trees, walkways that are easy to access and do, bridge ways, parks and swings for the kids its a really great place to stop and relax.
