Protero Wines

Reviewed By nb3883 - Melbourne, Australia

Love the simplicity of this place. Nothing more than a shed !! Just having a nice day in the Adelaide Hills and came across it. Dropped in for some local produce. Always happy to support local producers rather than supermarket chains. Whilst my partner was loading up with fruit and veggies I wandered into the liquor area where I came across some bottles of Nebbiolo- not cheap but interesting never the less. Very hard wine to get outside of the King Valley in Victoria. Bought a bottle (2006) and have just enjoyed it at a nice restaurant in Glenelg - superb, that's all I can say. Whilst I am more than happy to review Protero Wines hopefully those of you that visit will leave me a bottle or two of this amazing wine - please!!

Applewood Distillery

Welcome to Ochre Nation Bar - Home of Applewood Distillery & Unico Zelo Wines. We can host small groups for tastings by appointment only. Contact us via email. Who are we? Applewood Distillery is South Australia’s hub and encouragement of Craft Gin. Not many know we make much more than our signature Applewood Gin. We also have a range of clients including: Prohibition Liquor, Barossa Distilling, Ounce Gin, Glen Ewin Estate Fig Gin, Brocken Spectre. Outside of Gin we also make Cello’s, Amaro’s and starting to get dabble in whisky. We love Australia, so much so that we want to embrace the Land we come from and use Australian botanicals and ingredients wherever possible. Whether that be in our Gin, amaros or within our Limited Editions. We want you and the world to experience these gifts from our great country. Unico Zelo is Inspired by an intense passion for the land, our wines are crafted to showcase unique sites and soils that Australia has to offer - in styles that are typified by the life and culture of this sunburnt country - from varieties that require minimal intervention. Following their passions for italian-inspired, textural and site-expressive wines, they seek to create Australian examples of Mediterranean varieties in an approachable and jovial fashion. We believe that these are the appropriate varieties for our country and what we should be known for. We support our local community with the Harvest Wine Co-op - Australia’s only operating growers co-op. What is this? It is a profit sharing initiative and effort to support farmers in financial hardship after unsustainable farming and wine industry practice.

I went to the Applewood Distillery with some friends and as a local I cannot believe I have not visited before! Thank you Sophia and Tom for the kind and friendly service with excellent knowledge of the different types of gin. I would recommend the gin collection with a food platter. There is also a Tesla recharging station for electric cars. I will definitely be returning sometime soon.

Federation Park is a beautifully tended and thoughtfully planned sprawling park that is perfect for get togethers and family picnics. From the gazebos to the wonderful shadey trees, there are endless places to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature. Barbeque facilities and a two step playground are great amenities. There is a meandering creek to spot the tadpoles and birds wander through the park like strutting celebrities. A top spot for kids and parents alike.
