Fascinating limestone hills and towers lure tourists from China and around the world to this city of 630,000. Popular sights include 120-hectare Seven Star Park, Reed Flute Cave, 200-foot high Fubo Hill and the much-loved Elephant Trunk Hill. Guilin is very popular as a starting point for Li River cruises to Yangshuo and for visits to the nearby minority villages of Yao, Miao and Dong. April, May, September and October are the best months to visit, as they avoid the extremes of heat and rain.

This is truly a strolling park with many tourists observing the sites. Many lighted statues, water features, walkways, bridges, etc.

Day and Night view is so different, Night view is highly recommended as all the strategic locations and landscape were well lit with modern LEDs yet keeping the surrounding clean (yes cleaned) and unpolluted. A mega change in Guilin over last 10 years.

Rising more than 213 meters in elevation from the west bank of the Lijiang River, this hill offers superb views from its summit.
If I remember correctly, I was there in Oct 2011, problem with your selection date. Guilin is one of the most scenic and beautiful part of China, from the river cruise to the Fubo Hill and the caves. It is a very enchanting place.

The lightings in the cave seek to enhance the experience and the guide does a wonderful job in explaining the shapes and history of the rock formations. Not sure if there are guides who conduct in languages other than Mandarin. Only part that I didn't like was the Tortoises cave. A side cave was set aside to display Tortoises and a couple of them was swimming in shallow water with coins and even notes floating in the water. That animal abuse. The rest of the cave is a good way to spend a couple of hours.

After you do a river cruise, you should try and take in the view of the mountains from above. My friends and I biked from near the sun and moon pagodas to the base of the mountain using ofo bikes. It took us about an 1 hour to bike there, and it is relatively flat except for the last maybe 400 meters. We then paid 110 yuan to take the ski lift up to the top where the views were absolutely magical. We tried to get a student discount as we had student cards from our university in Shanghai, but we didn't get a discount because we didn't study in Guilin (or this is atleast what we understood). We then took the ski lift down and biked back into Guilin downtown. It was really amazing and after spending 4 months in China, it was so nice to make my way into less populated areas, I would 100% recommend biking to the base of the mountain as you pass farms and cool cemeteries etc. on your way. Enjoy this beautiful sight!!

Visted via the Li river cruise. I highly recommed it. I wish I would have spent more time here. This is where the landcape pic on the back of the 20rmb is located...

We arrived early in the morning before the crowds of tourists arrive and just as the locals were out doing their daily shopping, and setting up tables with food and craft items to sell. The narrow houses, shops & temple lined streets along the river were great for exploring and catching a glimpse of a way of life that is quickly disappearing. On our way back to town we stopped at a road side table and bought some delicious fresh strawberries.

Resembling an elephant drinking water from the Li River with its long trunk, this hill towers more than 55 meters above the water.
A fairly easy walk to the top with a stop off to the cave that goes through the hill. The cave is the eye of the elephant. Good views from the top where there is an ancient structure shaped like an upside down pot. lots of history and things to take in on a restful afternoon. Great place to propose, haha.
