After living in Antigua for over 3+ years, this is a staple for special occasions, when friends visit, or just needing some solo time. There's a bustling energy about the ground on Saturday's when Caoba throws their famous farmers market, although they're open Wednesday - Sunday and hosts various events throughout. Make sure to bring a camera and enjoy a walk around the property. From the beautifully presented snacks to the farm, it's a photographers dream full of color, life, and the beauty of nature all around. Your visit can be a short stop into the artisanal tienda, although you'd be selling yourself short. If you have time, settle into the restaurant for a full meal, straight from the farm, or just a liquado. There's plenty to do for the entire family if time allows - farm tour, workshops, mariposa garden, succulent plant garden, play area for the kids, live music, and much more. They conveniently offer shuttle service from Parque Central, but it's also a very enjoyable 15min walk from town. Uber is also available if a private ride is more your style.

For really good deals on Guatemalan handicrafts, especially leather goods, woolen blankets and masks, check out the underground stalls here, where fresh produce is also available.
Right behind the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Mercado Central is a must. You can get lost in it. Wonderful crafts to delight your eyes and a great place to shop. Prices are incredible, but never pay what the sellers are asking for. Bargain, bargain and bargain. Things are much cheaper than Antigua. If you don't intend to shop, do not skip it. It is a wonderful experience!

You'll find textiles, jewelry, clothes and Mayan crafts for reasonable prices at this permanent outdoor marketplace.
Great market for getting souvenirs, with a large range and everyone happy to barter! beautiful range of goods showcasing traditional styles. Once you have explored the craft market go into the locals market next door, where you can easily get lost in the winding rows of shops from homewares to fish to shoes and jewelry! Expect to get a few looks, especially if you are blonde!

There seems to be every kind of produce in this market. Fruits and vegetables are everywhere. Tortillas are constantly being made. Plantains and avocados are plentiful as well as fruits Ihave never seen. It is quite a site to see women in traditional Mayan attire.

Thursdays and Sundays, this mountain village is transformed into the world's largest handicrafts market, where you'll find pottery, colorful textiles, carved wooden masks, flowers, incense and other Mayan goods for sale.
It is the largest market in Central America and is a tourist attraction, but most definitely not a tourist market. The population of Chichicastenango and surrounding area is overwhelmingly K'iche' Mayan and the products offered for sale are almost all primarily for the locals. The market spreads over a number of blocks and includes indoor and outdoor elements. It appears to be at the highest point in the town with the result that everything needs to be hauled up here, much of it by human foot power. I am amazed at the size of the loads that the people, mostly women, are carrying on their backs. There are many aspects to the market including poultry, limestone for making tortillas, textiles, flowers, vegetables, musical instruments, pottery, hot food - you name it. You will feel like a giant in this land of the smallest people on Earth. The best thing is just to look at the photos and hope to get there someday.
