My friends and I loved learning to cook authentic Guatemalan cuisine from Chef Claudia. She did a wonderful job dividing up the duties so even the youngest children in our class could help prepare the meal, and we all learned a lot about traditional Mayan foods. At the end of the class, we sat down at the CECAP patio, perched among the Santa Cruz rooftops, and the kitchen staff presented our meal with a culinary flair. Enjoying our beautiful food along with beautiful views of the lake was a fantastic way to end our trip to Lake Atitlan.

Anita’s cooking class was our favourite activity in San Pedro !! We had the best experience, from buying fresh produce from the market in the morning to cooking up the yummiest meal in the most beautiful kitchen. There were 3 of us in the class which was the perfect number to all get involved and always have something to do ! Anita was the best host, so accommodating, knowledgeable about Mayan culture and open to sharing her own amazing story. Preparing the meal and then sitting down altogether to eat it was so rewarding and it tasted amazing !! I couldn’t recommend this Mayan cooking class more to anyone of any age. If you are in San Pedro it is absolutely a must !!!!

This cooking school is hands down the best bang for your buck! I came with my brother and good friend (10:30am class). They both had never tried a cooking class in Guatemala before, and we left with full tummies and a new found appreciation for Guatemalan cuisine! During the class, we made Pepían (traditional dish of Guatemala), chocolate stuffed plantains, rice with vegetables, radish mint lime onion salad, plantain juice (really good for a hangover lol), and handmade tortillas! (Tricky, but my favorite part) They showed all the ingredients before we started, and there’s no added artificial flavors, and very little food waste! Each of us was given things to do throughout the class, and it was very simple and fun. We got to drink as much wine as we could, and enjoy all the food when we were done! Sonia was our cook, and she was friendly and knowledgeable, and was always on top of everything. I have lived in Antigua for 2 years and this is easily one of the best things to do with friends and family. I highly recommend this school to have a wonderful time with friends! It was a great way to spend a morning. Thanks La Tortilla! 10/10 would recommend (:
