Kverna Horse Rental is a small family run business, just 1km outside of Grundarfjorður. We offer 1 or 2 hour riding tours in small groups. On our tours we go up into the mountains surrounding the farm, where we will see beautiful waterfalls and enjoy the untouched nature.
This was a wonderful ride! The landscape was stunning, the horses were great, and Julia was a fabulous guide (I was able to easily schedule with her via email). This ride was a completely different experience than the Iceland beach ride we had earlier in the trip, because this terrain was mountainous and rugged. The horses are perfectly suited for traversing it, just as they have for centuries. We lucked out with wonderful weather and could enjoy the green and sun on the farm's gorgeous property.

Laki Tours takes you on an ocean adventure in four different trips. Puffins galore can be spotted from the protected Melrakkaey island where thousands of other birds also nest. Sea-angling is the perfect family outing and gets even more exciting when you get to keep your catch. From Olafsvik, the Whale tour gives excellent whale watching in deep waters at the foot of the majestic Snaefellsjokull Glacier. Winter brings the orcas, dolphins and white-tailed eagles. We take you to them on what is by now, our most popular tour. "We're living it!"

The mountain is near Grundarfjordur, a teensy-weensy town in west Iceland. With a summit 1,500 feet above sea level, Mount Kirkjufell the biggest landmark in the village of about 900 residents. Kirkjufell stands on snaefellsnes peninsula of its own, a stunning backdrop for the multicolored Icelandic sky.
Worth the long drive to see this iconic mountain from all sides! Grundafjordur to east is nearest place for food and petrol. There is also a fabulous waterfall opposite.

This waterfall although not huge is a must if on the Snafellsjokull Peninsula! The access and walkup is very easy and the view toward Kirkjufellsfell Mountain is worth it. The parking lot is small which may require you to park across the road if busy. 10 minute climb to the view point.
