On Friday August 16th, 2019, my wife and I continued from the Village of Rocky Harbour following Main Street up to Lobster Cove Head and the Bonne Bay Lighthouse, NFLD. On arrival, there is ample parking space in the visitor parking lot. From there, we proceeded to the red and white Lighthouse that once served to guide fishermen and to keep shipping traffic safe in the waters of Bonne Bay. Inside the lighthouse, you can examine renovated exhibits that highlighted the people and the heritage of the area. Some present audio recordings of folks’ songs, historical photos, and old lightkeepers logbooks. While in the kitchen, we met friendly Parks Canada Guides that were knitting and chatting along. Outside the lighthouse we noticed many walking trails paths that lead to photos spots. Many visitors were enjoying themselves picnicking while others were walking along the rocky shores. It is said that this Bonne Bay Lighthouse is known as the perfect spot to enjoy sunsets or even to spot whales. If you are visiting this western part of NFLD and the surrounding areas of Gros Morne National Park, Lobster Cove Head is a must to see as it provides for magnificent viewpoints for taking photos. We would recommend it to family and friends.

My husband and I have been visiting Newfoundland in July for about 24 years and this is one of our stops. This twice moved traditional saltbox house built in the 1920s draws us back again and again. Going inside is like stepping back in time. With the furnishings you can imagine life in those times. Don't want to give my age away but I remember and have used some of those things. And the view and wild roses--awesome.

This lighthouse is easily accessible by a short walk through a field loaded with yellow and purple flowers. What a photo op and of course I love lighthouses. It is located near historical Woody Point town. There is a small space to pull off and park to see the lighthouse. My husband and I had the area to ourselves. Wonderful.

The wreck of the S.S Ethie is located in Gros Morne National Park just off Route 430 with a small picnic area and good parking. My wife and I had completed a cross country road trip in June and I stopped here in September on a return trip to Newfoundland to see things I missed. I had also stopped at this site on a motorcycle over 30 years ago but did not follow-up on the history. The wreck can be seen by descending a set of wooden stairs, and while there really is not much to see, it does inspire one to read the fascinating history of how all 92 passengers and crew were saved with the help of local people and a dog. This site will be of interest to those interested in shipwreck history and scenic views. It will be less interesting for those who have difficulty with stairs.
