Cobblestones Museum

Cobblestones Museum is located in Greytown on the site of the original Hastwell stables built in 1866. From here horse drawn coaches departed for Wellington and other Wairarapa towns. The new Entrance & Exhibition Building acts as an introduction to the museum and village and showcases a number of our larger and significant objects in our collection. The new exhibition building tells some of Greytown’s and Wairarapa heritage stories within it, and provides a link to other displays at Cobblestones and the region’s wider history. We also show the strong links to Papawai Marae and the exhibition features two river waka both of which were recovered from farmlands in the South Wairarapa. Within Cobblestone’s attractive village setting visitors can discover a range of historic buildings, giving an insight into life as it was lived by the Wairarapa’s first European settlers.

So pleased we stopped off here. Great museum of original buildings from local communities with lots of original artefacts. Particularly scary equipment in the little hospital, and sweet reminders of everyday life in the cottage. Excellent display of local photographs and history in the main building, well presented. Very knowledgable and friendly volunteers too, thank you!

Schoc Chocolates

The wonderful aroma of delicious flavours is the first thing that hits you as you enter the amazing space where Schoc Chocolates are sold. It is a favourite place of ours in Greytown. The innovative range of chocolate flavours and shapes is amazing (this time we saw beautiful high-heeled shoes, in splendid colours, all made of chocolate). This is a place to buy the most expensive and eye catching presentation packs (they truly are a ‘feast for the eye’), as well as more every day treats. The highlight is the array of small wooden drawers with dolls-house spoons from which the enthusiastic staff offer taste samples. Try-before-you-buy at its very best! (I have to close my eyes to concentrate on the unique combination of flavours - that adds to the pleasure). It is all good, but one can select personal bests in Schoc. We always enjoy the Wellington bars, and this time we bought a ‘Greytown’ one too. Who knows what we might try next time!

Love this walk through farmland, especially when the llamas are out. It can be a bit exposed in summer so hat and sunblock required. Also wish people would keep dogs on leads!

Soldiers Memorial Park

Reviewed By AnthonyG542 - Wellington, New Zealand

Our kids love playing here when we visit Greytown. It’s a good little park with nearby toilet facilities. Great place if your camping. To be honest I know this is meant to be a park that commemorates our fallen soldiers but there is something quite sweet and respectful about it having a big play area and not just a big memorial.
