What to do and see in Green Mountains, Green Mountains: The Best Things to do Good for Kids

December 6, 2021 Velvet Mowry

Vermont’s Green Mountains are the peaks that gave the 14th state its name. Still largely covered by the verdant forest, the area is a year-round destination, popular with both skiers and hikers. The Long Trail, a wilderness hiking trail, traverses the state, while drivers set a slower pace on Vermont’s scenic roads. Quaint towns, such as Stowe and Montgomery, acres of farmed valleys, apple orchards, covered bridges and specialty stores take visitors back in time, and charming inns await.

My husband and I, and another couple recently took the guided snowmobile tour through Snowmobile Vermont - it was more than we could have ever imagined! First, the instructor who led our tour, Geoff White, was amazing. He was funny, very knowledgeable of the trail system and how to operate the snowmobile - he was the perfect tour guide and would highly recommend him. The trails were perfect - we went from wide trails, to backwoods and even across the lake! I can't stress enough how cool the experience was for our whole group.

We were in town just for the evening, as we were passing through but wanted to stop halfway through. John was very friendly and welcoming and gave us a great list of things to do that fit into the 5 or so hours we had. It was all great! We enjoyed a covered bridge, the monument, we paid our respects to Robert Frost and perused a few shops on Main St. we ended a great little sightseeing tour with dinner at Publyk House and we were not disappointed. Great visit to Bennington!!!

The museum shop sells dollhouse kits and dollhouse furniture, as well as dolls. Hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment. Admission $2 for children over three and $4 for adults.

I was recently in Bennington visiting with my family. My sister-in-law (who is a Bennington native!) and I decided to go see this. It was a first time for both of us. I have been a fan of dolls and dollhouses all of my life so this was a thrill for me. I love the detail that is put into each dollhouse and also the exhibits based on different children's books! Next trip back, it will be on my weekend afternoon to-do list!!! I was fascinated by the workroom where everything is scaled down and created. I highly recommend this to anyone who values miniatures, antique toys and dolls and just wants a chance to be a kid again for an afternoon!

North Meadow Farm

We are a small dairy farm and cheese making facility. We sell farmhouse cheese and local humanely raised meats and raw milk. We give tours of the farm and our progress and answer questions about farm to table. Our goal/mission is to educate our community and guests about a small farm life.

Reviewed By spage36 - Dorset, United States

What a fantastic farm settled into the hills of Manchester. The owners couldn’t be nicer and take care of the animals that range from massive 800 lb pigs (we like Pierre the Pig the best) to calfs, goats and sheep and others. They let our little ones pick up the animals, collect eggs and do just about as much as we pleased in terms of farm help! It is a smaller family run organization where tours are personable and you can wander into their shop full of both their eggs, meats and cheese. There is also loads of breads, honey, sauces and other food products that we’ve seen sold at the weekly farmers markets in town so it’s been a nice tip of the cap to some of the local businesses. In the summertime, the fresh vegetable garden is a source of big envy for us as aspiring gardeners.
