A 14th century it pops up among the narrow streets of the old town through the walls.It is a Catholic of the older Byzantine Monastery and still remains a part of the historic Vlatades Monastery.The frescoes are considered unique style and quality! Their colors are excellent

Saint Spyridon Church , the miraculous and Saint of Corfu The history and the tradition of our local Church from 1456 is imminently connected with Saint Spyridon. The arrival of his holy relic from Istanbul, his staying in Corfu, the built of his church along with the establishment of five big feasts based on Him led the christians to believe that Corfu cannot exist without Him. But even our local Church owes Him a lot. Not only did He protect it during the hard times of the Venetian Occupation, but also from other foreign occupations. French, Russians, English, Italians and Germans have passed over our island, staying for different lapses of time.

Hi, The church has a lot of history behind. There are benches inside so you can sit and contemplate. Around the church are a lot of good stores where you can buy a lot of religious souvenirs.

Beautiful church with some old mosaics and gorgeously carved pews, definitely worth a visit. You can also visit the crypt underneath which is quite interesting and has good descriptions in English.

Agia Sophia is one of the most impressive Byzantine churches of Thesaloniki. Located in the center of the city as well, it is a very beautiful “Domed Basilica” style temple with an imposing architecture, beautiful wall paintings and elaborate mosaics. Having a 1600 years old history, it can easily be considered one of the most important religious sites in Macedonia. The earliest written reference about the structure goes back to 795 A.D., while we can safely assume due to archaeological evidence that another Christian temple existed there, until the destructive earthquake of 620 A.D. The majority of the wall paintings are dated back to 11th century A.D., while the sculptural decoration of the temple was finalized after several phases. After the Fourth Crusade in 1205 the structure was used as a cathedral by the crusaders, while during the Ottoman invasion in 1430 the church was converted into a mosque. It remained a mosque, until the city’s liberation in 1912. The temple of Agia Sofia is one of several city’s monuments included as a World Heritage Site on the UNESCO list, in 1988. Thessaloniki is considered one of the most important destinations in the world when it comes to Paleochristian Byzantine temples. Like several other monuments of the city, the temple was significantly damaged because of the 1917 fire and was afterwards gradually restored. The restoration of the dome was finally completed in 1980.

An amazing 13th-century monastery with a long history and an important role in the revolution against Turks.Near the villages of Amnatos, Eleftherna and Margarites. It has an excellent museum, a two-aisled church, and a huge outdoor parking space.UNESCO has designated the Arcadian Monastery as a European Monument of Freedom.

Currently free parking at the Aquarium just at the bottom of the hill with a variety of tavernas and cafes. Beautiful cove for swimming, or just enjoying the view and taking photographs. It's a 20 minute walk up to the monastery from here, and although it is possible to drive up further, it's a very narrow road controlled by traffic lights, so unless you have mobility problems I would suggest taking on the walk and enjoy the view as you go! The monastery is lovely, we sat for a few minutes of quiet reflection and took the opportunity to light a candle, (donation invited). There is also a small museum which was fascinating, great collection if liturgical vestments, religious artworks and prayer books, some from the 15th century. Amazing collection with I imagine lots of stories to tell. Well worth a visit. There is also a lovely gift shop selling honey, and religious memorabilia as well as Corfu guide books in English and most other common languages.
