Williamsburg Walking Tours

Our Walk About History tour is a 1 1/2-hour introduction to the history of Williamsburg -- its historical importance, development in the 18th century, glimpses into daily life of colonial inhabitants, and modern restoration. Our unique African American History Tour is specific to the Black experience in Williamsburg and lasts 1 1/2 hours. Our newest tour is The Civil War in Williamsburg, also a one-of-a kind tour of 90 minutes that covers The Peninsula Campaign, Battle of Williamsburg and the Union occupation of the town. Tours are outdoor walking tours. We do not go inside the buildings. All are excellent choices if you have limited time to visit Williamsburg, or are looking for an in-depth orientation on a particular subject before touring the town on your own.

Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg is the only place that takes you back in time to the dawn of America. This isn't just a place where things once happened. They're happening, right now, here in the 18th century. We're the place where the idea of our country is being born; the place where the ideals we stand for as Americans are being defined. We are the 18th century "live," filled with the stories of the women, men, and children—free and enslaved—whose values and visions gave us a new world. Step back in time and meet the people who made America—sing with them, dance with them, eat with them, and have fun with them. For every person who wants to understand this country, this is your place.

Governor's Palace

The luxurious palace of the loyalist governor, complete with meticulously replicated late 18th century furnishings.

We recently spent a full day at CW and started off our day with the Governor's Mansion tour. I would highly recommend this, it was a great tour, very interesting, and they give you a lot of information that you can relate back to in subsequent tours in other areas of the park. It took about 20 minutes and it is all air conditioned. Unfortunately we went on a Sunday so the kitchen was closed.

Williamsburg Winery

With over 40 acres of vineyards, a bountiful on-site garden, a hotel and two restaurants, The Williamsburg Winery is more than just a Winery. Wessex Hundred, the 300 - acre farm that is home to The Williamsburg Winery, Wedmore Place, Café Provençal and The Gabriel Archer Tavern, offers an unforgettable wine and culinary experience in the heart of Colonial America.

This past weekend, my wife and I spend one of the most enjoyable weekends in Williamsburg. We had the pleasure of staying at the Wedmore Place (see separate review) on the grounds of the Williamsburg Winery. Our room rate came with two passes to tour the winery and a tasting. After checking in, we were greeted by our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable of the history of the winery and the various fermentation processes. Our tasting was in a private room. The wine tastes were mostly whites, with a few reds, a rose and a choice of dessert wine. The rose was so good, we purchased a bottle. Being from Richmond, my wife and I spend allot of time in Williamsburg. We would recommend the winery to anyone who enjoys good wine and are looking for a relaxing afternoon. We will definitely be back.

I booked facials and pedicures for my mom and I on a Sunday afternoon. We had a great time! Neither of us had had facials before, so it was new for both of us. My aesthetician was wonderful - she designed an experience based on my skin. The facial included an arm and head massage. I was so relaxed I fell asleep. I really appreciated that she wasn't trying to sell me on the products she was using and my skin looked great afterwards. My mom also loved her facial - she had a totally different experience than I did (which makes sense since we have very different things going on with our skin!). Pedicures were nicer than what I'm used to at home - great color selection and really nice beauticians. We didn't have much interest in using the steam-room/whirlpool, so I can't rate that. The locker room was really clean and beautiful. Actually the whole building was quite lovely! It's expensive, but it was a great treat for both of us.
