In days gone by, Mundaring Weir would regularly overflow and many sightseers would make the 40 km (24 mile) trip from Perth to see it. Unhappily, this hasn't happened since 1996. The Mundaring Weir was completed in 1903 to supply water to be piped 700 km (435 miles) to the Eastern Goldfields. The construction of Mundaring Weir and the Goldfields Pipeline is an engineering achievement of epic proportions. The lake is named after C Y O'Connor, the chief engineer, who tragically took his own life. The Weir is located in bushland, with many wild birds and animals. It is well worth the trip.

A beautiful lake with a fountain in centre with a easy walk way right around it, ideal for a leisurely walk, or relaxing place for a picnic. Great place to take small children to be able to feed ducks and sometimes see turtles, I just love it. Granddaughter had beautiful photos prior to her ball.

A bit of a drive from the highway but a good place for a bbq and a great drive across the dam. The main attraction is feeding the parrots. You need to take seeds for them. They love sunflower seeds. If you stand in the picnic area (right next to the car park) and hold seeds in your outstretched hands or/and put some on your head and arms, you only have to wait a minute before the parrots will land on you and eat the seeds. You would pay for this at a zoo and only have one parrot. Here, you could have 20+ on you. We didn’t use the cafe as had our own bbq. Plenty of kookaburras to see close up also. Kids would love it. Length of stay depends on how many seeds you have and if you have a bbq.
