Welcoming, tolerant Gran Canaria offers a little something for everyone. Families flock to the water parks and beaches of Puerto Rico. Those seeking peaceful escape scamper to Mogan's quiet fishing villages. Gay visitors crowd the bars, restaurants and beaches of Playa del Ingles. Urban attractions are on offer in Las Palmas. Three highways open up the island for those with a rental car or a bus schedule. Prime sites to visit include Iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Arucas and Palmalitos zoo park.

I have been to this market several times now and find it wonderful! Its just such a chilled place to visit. You can eat great tapas (and there is a great selection) and wash it down with a great beer or chilled glass of wine. The market is really near to Las Canteras beach so you have the best of both worlds in this area of the city. Well worth a visit for those who appreciate good food and wine!

Mercado Agricola de Vega de San Mateo is the main market located in the town, which is in the Northern region of Gran Canaria Island. Here you can buy a lot of traditional food of the island, especially cheeses, vegetables, fruits and wines. In fact, I have gone 3 times to Gran Canaria and all times I came here: the perdect place to buy local products. So, when I return to my country, I can eat some tasting of local products of Gran Canaria. A top, if you are a food-local-lover, when you travel.

The market is centrally located on the main shopping street and housed in an old attractive building with maybe 10 stalls selling fresh meat, fish, cheese, fruits, vegetables and some bread. There is an organic food shop here. The sellers were all friendly and the market was authentic. Hardly worth a visit in it's own right but so much nicer to buy fresh, unpackaged local foods than in the supermarket.
