Celebrate the wonders of the land and sea in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city and home to Liseberg amusement park, the country’s #1 tourist attraction.
Visiting Gothenburg Archipelago is a must, as is sampling everything from modern gastronomy to ‘fika’ to the fresh-caught wonders at Feskekörka (Fish Church). Be sure to take in the Gothenburg Museum of Art, stunning contemporary art at Röda Sten Art Centre, and – if you visit in August – the incredible Way Out West music festival.

My 11yo son and I followed Bohusleden to and through Delsjön Nature Reserve. What a beautiful area. There are many seperate trails that can be followed, as well as Bohusleden. The main paths are well marked and even surfaced. There are countless places to sit and ejoy the review around the lake, or to take swim and cool off. There is even a beach area and a wonderful place to fika (Kaffestugan Lyckan). In this same area you will also find bathrooms, fresh water and places to rent a canoe, or go fishing. There are several rest areas around the lake where you can have a picnic. This area is great for anyone who wants to be out for just a short walk, or spend the day.

bring a pick-nick basket and take a nice walk to Stora Amundon a sunny summer day and bring a couple of carrots or apples to the horses that are running around on the island.

Welcome to one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe. The cultivated part occupies 40 acres and holds about 12 000 species. It is a botanical garden with a strong emphasis on horticulture and the garden is divided into different sections linked by lawns with fine trees and shrubs. You will find a kitchen garden, a herb garden, perennial and annual borders, a Japanese glade, a rhododendron valley and a stunning rock garden with a waterfall. In the bulb garden you find species that are not grown anywhere else. The Greenhouses have more than 4 000 species including a large collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. The Eastern Island tree, extinct in its natural locality, is preserved here. The garden is bordering a nature reserve where also the arboretum is located.
A lovely garden with so many different plants and trees in one place. Springtime, summer, autumn, winter, worth visiting all year round. Nice cafe for a rest as well.

Huge park on the outskirts of the city center. Parking (meter) available. Did not know what to expect. Absolutely huge, with large flat grass areas to relax, picnic or unwind, and forest areas. A free zoo in the middle allows you to see Gotland ponies, pingouins, sea lions, the famous moose and other Nordic animals. Very well done. There’s even a little petting zoo for children (closed at the moment due to corona). You can stop for an ice cream or waffle at a little cafe in the middle, or when you get to the end of the zoo there’s a much bigger restaurant that offers a lot more choices including savoury dishes. There’s also a great kids playground. Near the natural history museum.

It is the perfect option for a sunny day. the trip to the islands of the southern archipelago is cheap and fast, and there are frequent ferry-trips all day long. Also, you have the option of island-hopping, where you can visit more than one islands in a day. I visited the island of Styrso, which was truly beautiful. If the weather allows it, make sure you carry a swimsuit, because there are also places at the island where you can anjoy a swim.
