During a recent trip to Nebraska my son and I played several of the links style golf courses, including Awarii Dunes, just south of Kearny, NE, and this gem in Wild Horse. We've been playing the course off and on for 15 years now when we're visiting. It NEVER disappoints. Where Awarii is Ireland on the plains, Wild Horse would be the Scotland on the prairie. It is always meticulously maintained. Friendly, professional staff, easy access, and very competitive rates. This is golf that is not to be missed. BTW, on our way from Kearny to Gothenburg, we stopped in Cozad, NE for dinner at a new restaurant called 242 House. Wow!! This place is such a departure for typical small town and "interstate" cuisine. Great vibe, super friendly and caring staff, small, diverse, and really well executed menu. Rock solid wine list. And their outdoor area is fun for post-round and pre-dinner beverages, including some great apps and craft cocktails. It's right next to the Robert Henri art museum and only two minutes off I-80 at the Cozad, NE exit. Easy, Easy. Don't miss either Wild Horse or this gem called 242 House!!!

Gothenburg is home to 2 original Pony Express Station. In 1931, this station was donated to the City of Gothenburg and moved to Ehemen Park Arboretum. It is open FREE to the public April-October. During off season, you may tour the station by appointment.
This was a fun little stopover on a road trip. The building is very nicely preserved, though it was moved from it's original location to this charming little park. The inside is half gift shop/half museum. The museum had some very interesting exhibits like the saddle bags that carried the mail (they were padlocked and weren't able to be unlocked until they reached their destination). They also had a Pony Express brand used on the horses. I ended up buying a map of the Pony Express route.

Museum dedicated to the art and history of the sod homes of pioneer days.
If you like interesting sites as you travel, this is certainly worth a few minutes of your time. Close to the highway and neat to see how homes were made in primitive days. Also had the “World’s Largest Plow” in the same location. Also, barbed wire sculptures.

We visited this in conjunction with the Pony Express Station across the street. We could have spent more time here, but it was late in the day and we didn't want to keep the volunteers too late. They were very nice and stayed after hours to talk to us and tell us a little bit about the area.
