September 12, 2021 Nobuko Falco

Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

While nice due to a no car policy in a great many areas of the Park, it also is a Mecca for tourists on weekends, so if you want to avoid crowds, go during the week, when you can actual enjoy myriad experiences: tea in the Japanese Garden, a stroll through the Rose Garden, the beauty of the Arboretum and the butterfly garden inside, the great Redwood “garden”, a stroll around Stoll Lake, a run through the Park, or hiking trails through endlessly lovely little fern strewn, hidden flowered settings, or the latest at the De Young Museum. And so much more.

Golden Gate Park Windmills & Tulips

Reviewed By AdvtrTrvlr - Camarillo, United States

There are 2 windmills at the western most end of Golden Gate Park. The Dutch Windmill is at the north corner and has a beautiful tulip garden which was in full bloom the 3rd week of March. It’s a very small park with the windmill and tulips gardens in the immediate area but is a must see particularly in spring when the flowers are in bloom. There are no public restrooms and there can be many people even in slow times because the park is very small. We loved the park and would highly recommend visiting. At the other corner of the south end of Golden Gate Park is the Murphy Windmill which has just a Windmill to see along with a small keepers house and a couple placards with history but nothing else in that immediate area.

Stow Lake

Located in Golden Gate National Park. Small boats are available for renting to sail Stow Lake.

Reviewed By WillieMacfan - Healdsburg, United States

In the middle of Golden Gate Park, Stow Lake offers a respite from the fast paced atmosphere that is San Francisco. There is a road that wraps around the Lake where you can park; there are also foot paths up to the lake and over bridges to the island in the middle of the lake. You can stroll around the lake, have a picnic, rent paddle boats/row boats, climb the mountain on the island, check out the waterfall. You can feed the ducks and you may see a turtle or swan or two. Just a quiet and relaxing spot. Just enjoy the setting.
