Best known to most Germans as the locale of Georg-August University, Gottingen has about 130,000 residents, about a quarter of whom are students. Gänseliesel (Goose Girl) is the city's most famous resident, a 1901 fountain built in front of the 14th century Rathaus (Town Hall), which today houses the city's tourist office. But even Goose Girl can't escape the college students, who by tradition upon receiving their PhDs must climb and kiss her, making her "the most kissed girl in the world."

Whenever you visit Goettingen you will see small decorated carts, flowers and happy people around the Gänseliesel Brunnen and you think what is that? It is tradition over decades that a person who got a PHD, doctor title, to bring the Gänseliesel flowers and kiss it. Enjoy.

Marvellous building. Interior wood panelling and wall decoration the highlight. Also the venue for concerts and other public events.

Although my friend had a bid of fear for heights, we decided to climb the tower and wow that was a good choice. We were surprised to see the construction of the inner roof of the church, all the wooden parts, the steep climbs, but it was worth the climb. Upstairs you will be rewarded with a beautiful view on Göttingen and ofcourse you can view the clockworks in the tower.

Bar, student bar with own brewery. In the middle of Göttingen old town. Good for people who would like to go to the deep sea dive.
