Fascinating one hour tour with a short walk down the pit. Very informative and insightful. Couldn’t fault Richard who was our patient guide (and also a miner) - a real character with a great sense of humour. Loved it. Great cafe too.

A Museum housed in the original G.W.R. Goods station of 1883! The Great western railway Museum is housed in one of the last remaining permanent railway buildings left in the Forest of Dean on the original site of Coleford's railway yard. Its full of local railway history and artefacts it also has a 71/4 gauge miniature railway which runs around its site for all age groups! also has a full size Peckett locomotive in the engine shed and restored signal box.
The volunteers were very friendly and demonstrated the signal box providing a lot of interesting detail on the equipment and methods used. A trip round on the miniature steam railway and a good look round the museum - packed with items and information on the railways of the area. Good value for money. Very enjoyable few hours!

ABOUT US This Tudor farmhouse, located adjacent to the River Thames, was built of local limestone in 1570. Later, the Manor became the Cotswold retreat of William Morris and his family, friends and colleagues. When Morris first saw the Manor in 1871, he was delighted by this 'loveliest haunt of ancient peace'; he signed a joint lease for the property with his friend and colleague Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the Pre-Raphaelite artist. The Manor is currently closed for major conservation and improvement works.

With the last Concorde ever to fly as its stunning star attraction, Aerospace Bristol is a fun family day out that whisks visitors away on an exciting journey through more than a century of remarkable aviation history. Enjoy amazing exhibits - including aeroplanes, helicopters, missiles, satellites and more - be inspired by a stunning show projected on to the iconic Concorde, and get hands-on with fun interactive activities.
Excellent museum well worth the entrance fee and with AV projected on Concorde it was a great visit. Don't just go for Concorde, because the associated museum exhibits and the history of the Bristol Aircraft Company really round off a great afternoon.

What a wonderful hidden gem in the middle of the Forest of Dean! We have been 3 times now and have still probably NOT seen it all. There's so much to see, so much to read!, so much to take in. From Marilyn Monroe to Mods & Rockers and all sorts of QUIRKY things in between! This place has to be seen to be believed. I thought I was a collector of weird paraphernalia, verging on 'hoarder of note' but, this place has to be gone through with eyes wide open, or else you'll miss something. I was transported back to my youth whilst looking at some of the exhibits he has so carefully put together. It's so full, he's already running short on space... again It really is a great talking point in the area. Especially in the local pubs. Give yourself a treat; you'll never get so much for a tenner in your life again!
Since 2000, Yate and District Heritage Centre has established itself as the local authority museum, gallery and archive for the Yate area. Today the Heritage Centre has developed significant collections of local history artefacts, images, documents and audio material. With regularly updated exhibitions, we also deliver children's holiday workshops and large annual events.

Thornbury Museum is run by a very keen group of volunteers. The 'permanent' exhibitions include a lot of very interesting local items; packed into a small building. They have differing 'visiting' exhibitions from time to time, the current one is by Thornbury Camera Club who are celebrating 50 years. The volunteers also do talks to local groups and lead walks in the area. Details of museum opening times and lots more on their website and they also have a facebook page
