There is a beautiful Trail in the mountains that leads to a lake that is in the middle of it. The atmosphere is beautiful. You have to make reservations to do this and take a shuttle from Glenwood Springs. If you can hike and groomed and little bit Rocky Trail, it's worth it.

Hanging Lake Trail

This is a very pleasant surprise when staying in Glenwood Springs CO. The location is an environmental protected area, allowing only specific numbers of visitors. Reservations are needed as bus takes you to the trailhead and from there your adventure begins. The trail winds and switchbacks up the cavern walls, the views are amazing and the quiet is covered by the running brook you criss cross over by small bridges as you ascend. The hike is strenuous at times, recommendation to take your time and breath in experience. Hanging Lake is peaceful, a place to reflect, the short detour to Sprouting Rock is well worth the effort brings a smile and gives a needed cooling spray.

Sunlight Mountain Resort

Sunlight features 67 named trails covering over 470 acres. In addition to miles of cruising intermediate terrain, Sunlight's East Ridge has one of the steeper runs in the state. Aptly named, The Heathen falls beneath your feet at a breathtaking 52 degrees. Sunlight is home to one of the longest trails in ski country, Ute, a beginner slope that winds more than 2 miles from summit to base. Sunlight also hosts some of the best tree skiing in Colorado with many aspen groves untracked days after snowfall. All trails converge at the base lodge, so friends and family can always keep track of each other

Our family spent 5 days skiing at this family friendly ski resort. We had such a good time last year we decided to return again this year in spite of the pandemic. No shuttle bus from Glenwood Springs to ski resort this year which caused us to cancel our December 2020 trip. MDH found a ride to the slopes for this trip in Jan 2021. So much more reasonable skiing than the huge, large ski resorts. Grand-kids took group lessons and were the only students in the classes-awesome! The dinning room was not crowded-only a few tables and spread out at safe distances. The restaurant food is really good and not too bad price-wise. No lines for the chairlifts but they did get cold riding up the mountain.

My partner Sandy and I visited Iron Mountain Hot Springs for the first time with my adult daughter late August, 2019. Ample, close parking available, friendly, helpful staff throughout our visit, quick check in, clean, secure locker/shower areas, multiple (16 if I remember correctly) soaking pools of different sizes and temperatures plus a large family pool. Adult beverages available for purchase to enjoy while soaking. What's not to love? Great gift shop in the lobby. We left and returned twice during our day visit. Beautiful Colorado River views included. We'll definitely be back.

Doc Holliday's Grave

Reviewed By ColoradoMartini - Denver, United States

This is worth seeing. Doc came to Glenwood Springs for the vapor caves. Hoping it would relive his TB. But he soon died in the Hotel Glenwood. Which is now Bullock's store on the main drag. The towns people raised money to intern him. Wyatt Earp was not there. They were no longer companions. We came to his grave to film for our Doc Holliday grave video for our YouTube channel Colorado Martini. What we found was a hike up a steep hill. It is a dirt trial and not fit for wheelchairs. It is a good climb on the trail. There are no bathrooms. And take water. Wear tennis shoe or hiking boots. No flip flops or sandals. What you will find is a wonderful pioneer cemetery with a wonderful view of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Note the trial is not maintained if there is snow. Doc is on the northwest edge of the cemetery. He looks over the valley below. And has a black fence around the grave. And this is a replacement headstone. While you are there also visit Kid Curry. He rode with Butch Cassidy.
