Thank Claude Monet for making this small village, located less than 50 miles northwest of Paris, a global landmark. Not only did the world-famous Impressionist painter live here for over four decades, but his Japanese-inspired garden (and the artist’s restored 19th century home) remain must-see attractions for visitors to France. Art lovers also will want to check out the Musée des Impressionnismes, which houses—as you’d expect—a collection of paintings and special exhibitions highlighting the Impressionist movement. Great for day trippers visiting from Paris, Giverny also offers bed-and-breakfast lodging for those travelers who want to spend the night.

Fly over the region that inspired Impressionist painters. Depending on the direction of the wind, you will discover the loops of the Seine, the village of Giverny and the gardens of Monet or the Valley of the epte and its villages asleep in the mist

We visited these gardens in Ocober, and I was was not sure if we were going to be able experience the beauty of the gardens that I had read about. Despite the time of year, there were many beautiful flowers. Monet designed the-gardent to be beautiful year round. There were only a few waterlilies in bloom, but the flowers surrounding the pond provided a perfect "frame" for my many photos. I would like to return each season to experience this artists living picture!

Can you imagine a lovelier place for a fine arts museum than Giverny? One hour from Paris and Rouen, in one of the most beautiful villages of Normandy, the museum focuses on the history of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Throughout exhibitions of paintings, drawings and pictures, experience the art of the late 19th century to the present day, through a new approach.
