Girvan Harbour

Reviewed By Scottish-Hidden-Gems - Irvine, United Kingdom

This is a lovely wee harbour, always busy with fishing boats and you can catch the boat over to ailsa craig here and also the waverley paddle steamer. Lots of seating along the harbour on both sides, its nice place to eat your fish n chips! If you cross the harbour you will find the new kindness path that was created by the local care home. Paint a stone with a kindness message and leave to brighten up someones day! Girvan has been recently voted best seaside town in ayrshire and I have said this for many years. I have loads of happy childhood memories spending my holidays in Girvan. Loads of parking, toilets, chips shops, amusments etc but sadly not as many as there used to be but hopefully people will invest back in to this beautiful town!

Dalquharran Castle

Reviewed By darrendaz1979 - Stonehouse, United Kingdom

Went a trip here as from a search it looked stunning. You take a walk along a dirt track for about quarter of a mile through a forest and then all of a sudden this gem in the forest is in front of you. There are two castles the oldest one known as dalquharran old which is dated 1679 and dalquharran new built 1790 approx. The new castle is a stunning building with courtyard and outhouses which are very well preserved. The interior is ruined now due to roof being taken away and some vandals trashing it. The area is so peaceful and you easily can spend a few hours just walking round. The old castle is more of a ruin very nice to walk round and some stunning photo opportunities of the crest, old original fire surround. Highly recommend a walk here before it is not possible.
