One of the most historic sites in Spain, Girona lies in northeast Catalonia, just 99 km (62 mi) from Barcelona. Founded by Romans, the city later was taken over by Moors and Franks before finally falling under the rule of Barcelona. Influenced by different cultures and religions, the city beckons visitors with beautiful architecture. The Old and New Town offer many opportunities to pleasurably get lost and observe local life and culture.

You must walk the medieval walls of Girona and the towers to see the best views of the city. You really shouldn’t miss this. And if you’re a photographer then all the more reason!

The Sant-Domenec steps are amazing location to get a chance to view. Beautiful spot to take photos and gives you a taste of the old town charm everyone visiting europe is looking for. If you can come here during the evening, the steps would probably look even more beautiful.

One of the whimsical sites I visited during my time in Girona was the iconic statue named El Cul de la Lleona which dates back to the 12th Century. The statue portrays a lioness climbing a pole. During my visit, I learned it is believed that if a visitor to Girona climbs the steps leading up to the statue and kiss the lioness’ bottom, they will be certain to return to Girona one day. I didn’t kiss the lioness, but certainly hope to return to Girona one day!

Unfortunately we didn't have enough time in the centre of Barcelona to see all the wondrous buildings, but what we did see was very interesting. I loved the bustle and atmosphere.

Really nice square surrounded by lots of very nice eateries. Very popular with tourists and locals and it has a very well sculpted statue of liberation in the centre

Torre Gironella is the old tower part of the fortification walls once protecting Girona. I went up on the hill to see the tower and the walls off the beaten path. From Sant Pere de Galligants took the road to Sant Daniel Monastery, then back along the small Rio creek and across on the Font de Brisbe Bridge, then up on Baixada de la Font del Bisbe, a narrow path through the forest and the German Garden gardeto the Northern entrance through walls, there is also parking there. The you continue down to the Cathedral and the old town. I am happy I did then, it was a nice walk away from the crowds. Check it out !

As you comb through the old town section of Girona, you will spot this stunning cathedral up in the distance. Absolutely picturesque and now made famous by Game of Thrones. You can enter straight from the steps and there is a fee to tour the inside. Check the website for prices and hours before you make the trip.
