At Gaintza we take great pride in receiving guests. During our guided tours, the visitor will learn about the history and tradition of local txakolina wines. We start the visit by observing how this tradition has formed the actual landscape, then our visitors will be able to visit the winery, or "bodega". The visit finishes with a wine tasting session where our visitors can taste and learn about the 3 wines we produce at Gaintza, the traditional txakolina, our rosé and our special Aitako wine. The wines are always combined with local products to taste. The visit costs 16 euros per person. Please write to us or call us to make a direct reservation.
We arranged a tour at the last minute through our hotel which was a short but very uphill walk away. The tour consisted of an explanation of the growing process of the grapes then an indoor tour of the processing of the grapes to the bottling plant and then finally a fabulous tasting with some lovely anchovies ,bread and olives and three different varieties of txakoli . The tour was made very special as there was only one other couple with us which meant it was very personal and also the guide was extremely knowledgeable and also answered all our questions.

We were walking into the town, intent to make it to the harbor for lunch at a small seaside restaurant to be found upon arrival. Instead We found a wedding had just ended in this church, with everyone standing outside. We walked in and the priest was just cleaning up and locking the doors. It gave us a few minutes inside. The floor was incredibly far from horizontal. Possibly 18 inches from front to rear. This just did not happen, it was built in this manner. Beautiful interior for this small village church.

Txomin Etxaniz, located in the heart of Getaria, has maintained its dedication to cultivating vines and making txakoli for generations. Back in 1649, the Gipuzkoa Protocol Archives mention Domingo de Etxaniz, linked to growing vines in Getaria. Later he led the modernisation, recognition and creation of the Denomination of origin Getariako Txakolina in 1989. Txomin Etxaniz has more than 50 hectares of protected, sloped vineyards in Getaria where we grow two native types of grape; Hondarrabi Zuri (90%) and Hondarrabi Beltza (10%), which are harvested at the start of October and then made into txakoli in our winery. The Txueka Etxaniz family works and runs the vineyards, making and selling the txakoli. Along with them, workers and suppliers make up the Txomin Etxaniz team. The harvesting is done by hand in 20kg boxes at the end of September. This is followed by white vinification at a controlled temperature, pneumatic pressing in an inert atmosphere, then fermenting at a controlled temperature and holding over sediment until it is bottled. We make three types of wine: Txomin Etxaniz (txakoli), Eugenia (Fizzy) and Uydi (Late harvest) Contact details to arrange a visit: The Txomin Etxaniz winery is open to anyone who would like to visit and taste our txakoli with delicious local seafood products. However, it is necessary to request the visit using the form in our webpage and to receive a confirmation before heading towards our winery. Each visit is personalized and exclusively presented by one of our family members.

A great day trip from San Sebastian is to the beautiful little fishing port of Getaria. It has an ancient Basilica that is well worth a look at the statues inside and some lovely shops and streets to wander through. There are some great seafood restaurants all with lovely views over looking the harbour.
