Fantastic cooking class hosted by Pearly, an enthusiastic, friendly and extremely talented teacher (who also happens to teach internationally renown chefs!!) The whole experience was fantastic; Pearly accommodated my friend and I at the last minute and booked us on to the next day's class. We were picked up from our hostel by Pearly and made our way to the market where we met the other eager cooks. Around the market we learnt about local produce and met the locals. Pearly and her lovely husband, Chandra then took us back to their home to teach us how to cook three very different and delicious traditional Malaysian meals. After cooking, you then sit down as a class to eat, swallowed down with refreshing nutmeg cordial made by Chandra. We would do the whole class again and can't recommend it anymore to anyone who enjoys cooking and tasting local cuisine. Thank you Pearly and Chandra for having us and welcoming us into your home for an unforgettable experience :D

A beautiful house filled with antiques -- it is well worth waiting to join a guided tour in order to get the most out of your visit, as many of the objects in the main house have short (rather than detailed) labels for visitors to read. Our guide, Stanley, was friendly and knowledgeable, giving us a great insight into the history of the family who had built and lived in the house, as well as taking us through the extensive collections on display. Stanley was very happy to answer questions from our little group and made our visit a fascinating, very memorable one!

Nazlina's Cooking Classes are held 4 days per week. We start at 8am with a local breakfast, followed by a tour to the local markets. As the Market Tour is only available in the morning, people for the afternoon class may join the morning Tour and then come later for the afternoon Class. When you book, please advise as to any dietary requirements or allergies. Nazlina has been featured in New York Times' 36 Hours in Penang, on the BBC Good Food Channel, as well as several in-flight magazines. She built the business single-handedly, starting with renting out garden spaces to hold her classes in, and is now the proud owner of a 100 year old shop-house in the heart of the heritage zone in George Town, Penang. All equipment in the Cooking Studio is of the highest quality including German made stainless steel products, steamers, pans and woks. The prices are RM250 per person for the morning Class, and RM200 per person for the afternoon class (without breakfast or Market Tour).
We joined Nazlina for one of her wonderful cooking classes. It is a well thought through experience, beginning with breakfast, followed by an interesting and informative market tour, the main event of the cooking class, finishing up with the lunch that we cooked as a class. Thank you Nazlina for sharing your knowledge and stories with us. We can’t wait to try the recipes at home.
