If you love horses and wildlife, please come here! We had a great riding-safari and were lucky enough to even see the giraffes! Our guides Marie and Alec were very knowledgeable and took great care of us. We felt very safe the whole time and it was just an incredible experience :-) A must-try is also the homemade pizza in the beautiful garden of the farm, very yummy.

6 Things I really like about Monte Casino- Our family really enjoyed the day. It is kitsch and cool and worth a visit- super fun! 1 It transports you, it is fantasy, it's an escape from politics, crime, the economy- the everyday worries that South Africans face. 2 Musical Theatre at Monte Casino- We enjoyed lunch and went on to see Chicago. Polished perfection. A wonderful showcase for our abundant local talent and the excitement of seeing a musical theatre star from abroad added to the experience. 3 There is something for everyone. You do not have to be a gambler to be entertained. 4 Immaculate- it is really sparkling clean. The public restrooms are pristine despite how many people go in and out of them. 5 Food- Casa Bella -questo ristorante è divino ( one must praise them in Italian even if you have to copy and paste, because you aren't)- really Bellissimo-order the pizza. 6 Cherry on top- you buy your parking ticket upon entry and it is only R10.00. That was a pleasant shock- I expected that it would be way more. Recommended for locals and visitors from abroad.

The 1976 photograph of slain thirteen-year old Hector Pieterson, carried by a friend while his grieving sister runs alongside, is a chilling reminder that South African was changed thereafter.
The memorial and what it represents tugs at the heart. You need a local to truly explain the significance of this memorial and Soweto uprising. Hector's sister also works at the memorial. If you visit Robben Island you will also meet one of the guides that was also arrested as part of the uprising and served time as a prisoner at Robben Island.

This is a great mall and its huge. The selection of shops is excellent, from designer to regular stores. A walkway to Mandella square when you are done to hang out.

The majestic Voortrekker Monument is situated in the northern part of South Africa in the Pretoria (Tshwane) region in a nature reserve. It is a unique Monument which commemorates the Pioneer history of Southern Africa and the history of the Afrikaner and is situated in a beautiful setting. Today it is the most visited heritage site of its kind in Gauteng and one of the top ten cultural historical visitor attractions in the country.
The building is an engineering marvel surrounded by the lager of ox wagons ! The setting is really outstanding & it's well worth a visit . There's plenty of parking & friendly welcoming staff.

Gautrain is Africa’s first world-class, modern rapid rail and bus service for Gauteng, a province regarded as the economic heartland of South Africa.
Whenever I use the gautrain it is always on time and it is also very efficient, very neat inside as well and you cannot miss where you get off because it always reminds you. The ride to the airport is a bit too pricey though

Great meeting place, dominated by the giant statue of the great man and surrounded by big, glitzy restaurants, mainly grill houses serving gigantic portions of meat and fish.

Welcome to an Eden hidden in the West Rand of Gauteng where beautiful nature welcomes visitors and the rushing water of the Witpoortjie Waterfall, gushing from a height of 70 metres, soothes and revitalises careworn city-dwellers. The garden is home to a pair of breeding Verreaux's Eagles (Black Eagles) which have become proud symbols of this majestic garden. Walking, hiking, picnics, exercising, bird watching, relaxing, nature appreciation, are some of the popular activities of visitors to the garden.
Such an exquisite hidden gem! Stunning natural waterfall. Loved seeing the two black eagles nesting at the top of the waterfall. Saw many birds including the Golden Tailed Wood Pecker, Striped Kingfisher, African Hornbill, African Black Duck and a Sunbird amongst others and loads of weavers building their nests. Beautiful trails under the trees and a geological walkway. Remember to take binoculars and a camera with. It makes the spotting so much easier. Also a lovely restaurant to enjoy afterwards.
