Children's Museum with over 26 interactive exhibits and an art studio. We "Inspire wonder and excitement for learning"! Programs offered weekly and monthly. Fence enclosed playground. Free Wi-fi and concessions available.
We took our grandkids, ages 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 for our first visit. They loved it. When it was time to leave they were trying to negotiate a return trip. All the exhibits are hands-on and the kids could have stayed all day. Unfortunately our grandkids do not live around here.

This old building is just fabulous in itself, and it was a pleasure to walk through all the rooms. Quite a large selection of things from furniture to crystal and old toys. Some antiques, some Depression and mid-century, some modern stuff. Friendly and accommodating staff. Third floor has one room occupied by the Galesburg Historical Society.

The engine, mail car, pullman car, and caboose are well worth the visit.
We are a big 'visit RR museum' family, and we learned new things and especially enjoyed the mail car. The temperature was blistering (90+) but the uniqueness of the cars made the heat bearable.
The museum is nice. I enjoyed reading through the scrapbook of the adventures of a stuffed raccoon that an area school sent on a round trip ride on the trains from Illinois to Oregon. The tour before us was an older gentleman and his elderly father who was completely deaf. The volunteer guide and the son communicated with the father by writing on a small white dry erase board. The guide went above and beyond to make the train car tour accessible to the father. It was awesome to see.

Carl Sandburg--world-famous poet, Lincoln biographer, collector of traditional American songs, social activist, writer of children's stories, movie reviewer, newspaper reporter, Spanish-American War veteran, novelist, two-time Pulitzer Prize recipient, friend of presidents and celebrities--was born to Swedish immigrant parents in a humble 3-room cottage in Galesburg, IL in 1878. You can go inside his birthplace cottage, look at the many Sandburg artifacts in the next door Visitors Center, see a nice video of his life and accomplishments, purchase one of his many books. The beautifully-maintained grounds are a peaceful setting for Remembrance Rock under which his ashes are buried and Quotation Walk with lines from such poems as "Fog." An excellent docent will give you a tour of the Site which is open Thursdays to Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm.

A retail shop with the ambiance and offerings of a winery. Come do wine tasting in Galesburg. We have samples available every day -- $1.00 per taste (each flavor), up to 5 per person ($5). We market with care and integrity. We attempt to stock our shelves with a wide variety of wines that will appeal to both novices and aficionados. We typically have between 150 to 200 different selections including fine wines and craft beers. Oh, did I mention, we have over 200 selections UNDER $20! You will find that our wines are more than just thirst quenching; they tease, provoke, challenge, mystify and finally, captivate the drinker. You will be pleasantly surprised at our low prices, our great customer service and our cozy ambiance. Vintages offers one of the most economical nights out...grab a bottle to share, kick back at our great vintage tables for a fun night with friends at off-the-shelf prices instead of paying restaurant or bar prices!
Such a cute and fun stop. You can learn about new wines and have a light cheese and fruit tray. Great atmosphere and a friendly and helpful staff. I am excited to get back on a Friday night for live entertainment and desserts!

We went looking for winery information. We got that as well as some maps. We were the only ones there. It's a nice building with lots of brochures. Pleasant lady.

This is the oldest building on the Knox College campus. There are exhibits and pictures of Knox College history in the first floor hall (inside) and in the conference room. Outside are metal plaques honoring the debates and the 100th anniversary (centennial) celebration of the debates. There are also excellent exhibits on the 2nd floor of "Alumni Hall" next door - about Knox college and the Lincoln-Douglass debates.
What is desperately needed is some information boards outside "Old Main" to direct people to the Alumni Hall exhibits and to give a brief summary about this debate to tourists who often visit after hours or on days when Alumni Hall is closed. At the bottom of these info boards should be directions to the nearby Alumni Hall and to websites about the debates.

A meandering store with numerous rooms packed to the gills with lots of early 20th century furniture and accoutrements. Lots of cabinets and dressers. Amiable and knowledgeable owner on site. Upstairs area has a limited array of architectural salvage, including many doors, grates, smaller cast iron decorative pieces, trim pieces and salvaged wood. Worth the stop if you're in town.

For something different I had taken my wife out for a night out of bowling for Valentine's Day. It had been ages since we bowled. We both had a good time. I was never really a good bowler and it showed. My wife kicked by butt every game that we played. Northgate Lanes has been around for a long long time. They have leagues if you care to join one. Bowling used to be really big in the 1970's, but for some reason has fallen off of the radar like it used have been back then. But this is too bad. Bowling is a fun game, especially when done either with a group of family or friends. Give it try if you've never done it, or do it again if its been awhile since you've done it. The bowling pro's that work there will help you with any questions that you may need. They offer shoe rental and have plenty of bowling balls to choose from, so you don't need to go out and buy supplies to have a good time. Just show up and pay for you games. Can't wait to do it again.

Recently moved to the area and couldn't wait to sample the local courses. Bunker Links is the closest that isn't private so it was first up. There's no pro shop to speak of and the club house amenities are more or less what you would expect from a small city course. The rates are surprisingly cheap which is always a nice surprise, assuming the course is worthwhile and, in this case, it is. The course was in great shape, especially considering the dearth of rain this year. It's not the most challenging layout I've ever played; there's a minimal number of bunkers considering the course name but several holes bring water into play. All things considered, it will be a great weekly round going forward. Definitely recommend.
