Shiraito Falls

The falls are absolutely stunning. Quiet and even when busy, there was plenty of space and opportunity for photos. The views were stunning all round. We were lucky to see Mt Fuji on the day we visited.

Lake Tanuki

Only an hour from Fujimiya (1570Y)you can catch s local bus- if you get the right bus timing you can get off to see the falls for 30min before catching the next bus to the lake. There is a big resort and a camp ground both of which hire bicycles for 500Y an hour. This is ample time to take a leisurely ride the 3.3km around the lake whilst viewing Mt Fuji the whole way. The lake is popular with locals fishing which is interesting to see. This is s beautiful lake and an ideal way to experience Mt Fuji with our kids.

Mt. Fuji World Heritage Centre, Shizuoka

Reviewed By 45evanj - Cardiff, United Kingdom

I've been here twice. Enjoyed it both times. The building itself is interesting, designed as an inverted Mount Fuji which visitors climb via a long spiral ramp inside the building with high definition videos representing the view from higher and higher up Mount Fuji. There's a number of exhibitions off the main walk which cover aspects of Fuji: as an object of veneration, as a home for wildlife, in history, as an active volcano. the climax is a viewing room designed to give the perfect view of Mount Fuji IF (and that's a big IF) the weather allows. Get there by taking a bullet train to Shizuoka then local express to Fujinomiya for the full Japanese experience. If you're really feeling adventurous the local bus round the West side of Fuji to Kawaguchiko offers beautiful views of the mountain over the Yamanashi lakes and you can get a train back to wherever you came from Kawaguchiko station.
