Molino de Antigua - Museo del Queso Majorero

Reviewed By yolancris

Small and cozy museum where, however, it is explained in a very clear and visual way how mills worked in past centuries and how "gofio" (toasted cereal flour) was made in them. Thanks to the recreation of spaces (a 19th century kitchen, for example), as well as the multitude of details that we find in the museum, we transport ourselves to past centuries and imagine what life would be then. Finally, Gema, the museum guide, was very kind and enthusiastic explaining not only the history of the gofio and the mills, but also providing us with very useful information about the island. A highly recommended museum!

Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Antigua

Reviewed By Island-Seeker0 - La Oliva, Spain

Not sure where the reviewer below has in mind? Nuestra Senora de Antigua is very much intact and in use. A charming 18th century church with beautiful Canarian-style wooden ceiling and carved baroque altarpieces. Unlike some of the smaller chapels on the island it's also - usually - left open for visitors, at least in the mornings. The setting in the old plaza now prettily landscaped with palm grove and greenery greatly adds to the appeal. Definitely worth a brief visit. Also worth looking into the very pretty municipal library opposite if open. It's set up in an old Canarian house built around a tree shaded courtyard.

Please leave a donation for the family when you enter. Open 10-1400 and 1400-1700. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Pedro and he gave us a guided tour of the out of bounds areas to tourists. Such a bizarre underground chamber with striking similarities to the architecture of Auschvitz. No natural daylight downstairs, tunnels and cells. Please read up on all the conspiracy theories before you go. We went in our little rental car and got there unscathed and full of adventure. This was the highlight of our trip for me. The beach came a close second
