What to do and see in Friedenau, Germany: The Best Things to do

December 16, 2021 Giuseppe Pratt

Berlin is an edgy city, from its fashion to its architecture to its charged political history. The Berlin Wall is a sobering reminder of the hyper-charged postwar atmosphere, and yet the graffiti art that now covers its remnants has become symbolic of social progress. Check out the Weltzeituhr (world time) Clock, topped by a model of the solar system, then turn back time by dining at the historic Zur Letzten Instanz, a 16th century restaurant that was frequented by Napoleon and Beethoven.

Berlin-Tours Private Tours

My name isMartin Sauter, I'm a professional tour guide with an MA degree from Bath University and a PhD from Warwick University. My particular expertise are Jewish Life in Berlin, especially during the Nazi years, and all things to do with culture and the arts. But I am also very well versed in history and politics. I have lived in Berlin - on and off since 1989 - but also spent 15 years in the UK and in France. I am offering 1 to 4 hour standard walking tours in and around Berlin. Instead of just offering themed walks, I’m also offering tours by neighbourhoods as I firmly believe that this how Berlin as a whole is best experienced. It is my aim to give visitors the full picture of Berlin – past and present – and demonstrate how the two are connected. Additionally, I'm also available as a personal tour guide, offering tailor-made tours based on your interests. Furthermore, my special areas of interest are the multi-cultural Berlin of today and Berlin's New Architecture.

I arrived at this quiet, green cemetary at the end of the day, wandered the field for a half hour, looking for Marlene's grave and in the process getting to admire this cozy, green, charming burial ground. Lovely pastime, found Marlene's grave thanks to a helpful fellow visitor. Lovely and peaceful.

Sponholz Bar Pub

"I get the sense that this is bar has many regulars, because it has such a warm and friendly, almost Hawaiian-like vibe. It was clean, comfortable, and did not have the stale cigarette smell of many Berlin bars. There is a limited menu mostly of German food, but the dish my friend ordered was really hearty and tasty (a blend of beans, sausage, and vegetables). There's a host of good beer on tap. I had two :)"
