Laissez les bons temps rouler! In New Orleans the good times are perpetually rolling down Bourbon Street, which, thanks to the city’s annual Mardi Gras celebration, has quite a party animal reputation. Once you’ve soaked up the scenery of the historic French Quarter, tour the elegant Garden District and meet the colorful characters of Frenchmen Street. Experience the city's supernatural vibe at the Voodoo Museum or by taking a guided ghost or vampire tour through taverns, alleyways, and cemeteries.

New Orleans' Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America's truest art forms - Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture. Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.
Preservation Hall was a lot smaller and more intimate than I had envisioned, but it was perfect, and we loved our experience. We booked tickets ahead of time, which was fortunate since the line of people waiting to get in was extraordinarily long, and those without reservations who were able to buy on-site tickets had to sit on the floor or stand at the back. We sat on a bench at the front; the wooden benches are probably original, hard and unpadded (for those with bad backs). Surprisingly, there are no bathrooms inside; they send people to the bar next door. You can bring food and drinks inside. The musicians are gifted, funny, and engaging. The whole experience was memory-making. So glad we booked this piece of historic New Orleans.

This famous bar revolves around the room.
Excellent bar just off the lobby of the Hotel Monteleone. The circular bar is decorated as a carousel and rotates as you enjoy a cool beverage. Plenty of non-rotating seating as well. Live entertainment in the evenings.

Since we came for the Satchmo -one man show in October, we have been back twice. We saw "A Christmas Carol" the weekend before Christmas and "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" - a musical this past weekend. If we were smarter we woiuld have bought season tickets. Both shows were very well done and we enjoy coming here. The singing and live music this past weekend were very enjoyable. After the Christmas show we walked next door for dinner at Tableau that was also very good. This time we walked up Royal for dinner at Brennan's that was excellent. We continue to recommend seats on the main floor downstairs for best viewing. It is very easy to get to, right off the Northwest corner of Jackson Square.

This place is a little walk down Bourbon Street in the direction of Esplanade. I stumbled across it by accident due to the fact that the opposite side of the road was closed off due to construction. But I am glad I did! Being of the older crowd- over 35- I didn't think I would actually go into any of the clubs on Bourbon, they were mostly filled with the 30 and under demographic. It was fun just to have the experience of walking up and down Bourbon and trying a few of the drinks that only New Orleans have to offer. But this place, at least that particular weekend, had an older crowd with more of a bluesy vibe which is more my speed. The music was lively and the band was interactive with the audience, which always makes for a more fun and entertaining experience. The drinks were good and average price for any of the bars on Bourbon. You can order food as well but I didnt try any at that visit. I will go back there when I visit New Orleans again.

This was recommended by a friend of a friend and it lived up to the review. Definitely one of the better spots on Bourbon street ( which I didn’t like half as much as I expected).. great music, fun atmosphere, good service. I would highly recommend.

Maison Bourbon is preserving REAL jazz every night with great bands. Real trumpets, saxes, clarinets, upright bass, real piano. Louis Armstrong would be proud! They have great prices on drinks and food, and no cover charge. You can't beat this place, especially if you compare it to the place around the corner with "preservation" in its name. Keep up the good work entertaining the people, Maison Bourbon! I'll be visiting every time I vist NOLA.

Stumbled across this venue while walking through the French Market area. It is a virtual "hole in the wall" and not well publicized in NOLA tourist information brochures. They offer FREE concerts and lectures. I advise checking on line for scheduled events. Excellent historical photo displays and a nice small gift shop. A good way to experience New Orleans jazz without being in a bar.
