Of the many great houses and wine estates in the Pézenas area, few can match the charms of the Seigneurie de Peyrat. Today, (a family-run business) the estate covers 200 hectares, with 120 hectares of vines, olive trees and guarrigues. Famous grape varieties such as syrah, grenache, carignan, merlot, cabernet, cinsault and pinot noir are used for the red wines, followed by sauvignon, viognier, colombard, vermentino and chardonnay for the white ones. All grapes have been selected and are blooming on this fabulous terroir (clay and limestone / villafranchien soils). Respecting environment and searching for high quality; this is our daily guideline. You will be welcome here to visit our castle, its chapel and also our cellar. Deeply rooted in a pebble covered soil, the vineyards look at the river and contrast with the blue of the sky. A winemaking family since the XVIIth century, the Brunel family settles in La Gardine middle of the XXth century. Always the pioneer, in 1967 Gaston Brunel bottles his wines in an exclusive flask representing the very identity of his house and went west to conquer new markets in Canada and the United States. CHÂTEAU DE LA GARDINE is a family business including 8 members representing 3 generations aiming to the future. One works there together in respect of the terroir, of the family values passed down from each generation to the following, consistently delivering excellence. The wines are marketed in more than 35 countries and prised on the best French tables.

Passionate about our heritage and our wines, we enjoy sharing our stories and our know-how with visitors. Our tours are welcoming, educational and punctuated with family anecdotes. Come discover the unique and charming story of the family, the estate and the production of a Grand Cru from the vine to the glass : the terroir and the work in the vineyard, winemaking and wine aging. We are a small, fully-operational vineyard in the south of France practicing organic growing, cultivation, harvesting and production methods. Our winemaker, Serge Baux, is a man of passion whose philosophy is rooted in a respect for nature. Only a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean, mid-way between Perpignan and Canet along the ancient Roman VIA DOMITIA (containing the oldest vineyards of the Mediterranean countries), the Baux estate is spread out over 20 hectares, 12 of which are planted with vines in full production. A completely restored 18th century Catalan Mas houses the vinification, aging and bottling processes. We are also lucky to have a unique terroir, found in very few other places in the world, covered in naturally-formed round stones sitting on a clay bedrock, and we boast strictly manual green harvests with highly-selective hand-sorting of our grapes, producing exceptionally high-quality wines.

Historical tour : travel through time, visit the 12 thcentury chapel, the chateau built in 1202 by the Viscount of Pezenas, William of Pezenas. Not forgetting the royal dovecote with more than 150 nesting boxes, that dates from the 15th century and served as an indication of the estate's wealth. In the winery, discover the secrets of a traditional vinification method that respects the fruit and the characteristics of the grape varieties. Guided, interactive tour, during which any questions are welcome. Tasting; the most popular part of the tour... We encourage a genuinely shared tasting experience, in which people talk about the wines. Our objective is to help visitors understand the wine and what we try to achieve. Essentially, it is an introduction to tasting, a convivial, interactive occasion at which visitors are encouraged to express their feelings about the wines.
