Created with a woman’s touch. There are mannequins with period clothes that add to the atmosphere of the museum. A must see!

We had initially driven to Gum Swamp to see the new Goanna sculpture down the Lachlan. We noticed a track which headed down to a bird hide. Unlike a number of swamps we have been to in recent days, this one has plenty of water and therefore birds. The numerous dead trees are also interesting and give the wildlife refuge and nesting sites.

We arrived at Forbes with mostly older, outdated maps and information. The ladies at the old Forbes railway station - now the Forbes Visitors Information Centre - soon fixed that and provided us with the maps and information we needed, plus many brochures to aid our travels through central western NSW. Their enthusiasm and willingness to assist was impressive. Highly recommend for anyone seeking further information on the region.

SDL Sculpture Trail commences in the CBD of Forbes, continues around the lake and meanders along the stock route by the Lachlan River with a plan to finish at Utes in the Paddock, Condobolin NSW. There are over 20 sculptures and monuments at present with a plan for some monumental ones to be installed by the end of 2019. (Supported and part funded by Grazing down the Lachlan Foodie Adventure.)
While we were visiting the McFeeters Motor Museum the lady gave us a brochure on the new addition to the Sculpture down the Lachlan . We decided to head out to Gum Swamp and look at the $250,000 Varanus (Gugaa) Goanna. It was huge and very impressive and looked great nestled amongst the gum trees.

A must-stop for history lovers with the likes of Ben Hall, Rebecca Sheilds & Kate Kelly buried here. Lots of other well-known local graves to find the with the cemetery walk. Just in general is a lovely cemetery to stroll around, particularly if you’re looking for family members & ancestors.
