March 12, 2022 Christa Meece

Not just for retirees and theme park enthusiasts, the Sunshine State offers beautiful beaches, pristine diving conditions, and sizzling nightlife. Salsa the night away in a smokin’ hot Miami club, or swing away at one of Kissimmee’s many premium golf courses. An airboat tour of the Everglades is an unforgettable adventure – just look out for alligators! For the risk-averse, a lazy day spent on the soft sands of an Emerald Coast beach is as rejuvenating as a spa treatment.

Nature trails and fossilized coral reefs are the highlights of this park.

Reviewed By SkanLaker - Skaneateles, United States

We walked all of the trails (which totaled a little more than a mile). Great opportunity to see the tropical trees, quarry walls, and fossils. Self-guided tour. Very informative. The park offers a motorized wheelchair that can be used on the trails.

Florida Caverns State Park

This place is temporarily closed. A cave complete with rock formations and bats.

Interesting history exhibit, cute little gift shop, and excellent, educational tour of the caverns. Brenda did a great job as our tour guide! For homeschoolers, I highly encourage you to get some information on caves before coming here (we downloaded the National Park System cave book for Junior Rangers) - having some knowledge beforehand really helps the information to click when you take the cave tour.

Tortugas Banks

Coral "skyscrapers", some up to 100 feet high.

Had a wonderful 45 minute fight over to Dry tortugas!! Pricey but worth it. We flew over from Key West Airport on Seaplane Adventures with 10 other passangers. Saw lots of sea turtles, sharks, a couple of ship wrecks, a privately owned island, and had the best view of the Fort and surrounding area. Highly Recommend Seaplane Adventures for a memorable time with a great pilot who did a lot of narration along with a prerecorded narration of some of the highlights of the trip. This was through our comfortable headsets which reduced the engine sounds on the flight. We enjoyed the snorkling by the old coal dock pilings on the north side of the island. Saw some big fish and beautiful coral too! My wife was a bit chilly in a few areas so I would recommend a dive skin for comfort if you tend to be cold or chill easily. The fort was ok but I would spend time going up to the top to take pictures then spend the rest of the time snorkling or enjoying the nice beach. Bring you sun block because there isn't much shade☀️

Great place to dive, learn to dive, or to improve your skills. Dove for two days during the week and the viz was absolutely fantastic! Toby and Kevin at the dive school are top notch instructors, and well as being just good people. From shallow to deep, there's a dive for everyone here. Stay on site and get an early jump on the diving the next morning. You won't regret it, and we will be back!
