We had a wonderful time at this museum...it covered the Native American people, pioneer & settlers as well as a great section on the prison. The curator was wonderful and gave us a first rate tour. What a wonderful afternoon! We also went on to see the old Courthouse....

The Windmill Winery

Don't trust the GPS!!! Great place in the middle of nowhere. We visited after dark in an area we know nothing about the GPS was taking us in circle's at the end but luckily they had a giant bonfire going and I could find it from there. We sat for some live music and my girlfriend tried some of the wines and the lady at the counter was very helpful with the wines of their area. The hand kept coming around and stoking the fires and making sure everyone was ok and even saved a few ladies from a something scampering across the ground. This place is awesome and provided a wonderful night!

St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Monastery

Reviewed By PatN661 - Colorado Springs, United States

This monastery is in the middle of the AZ desert and is the most beautiful and serene place I've visited in many years. There are several buildings and chapels, each unique including interesting icons of this religion. The grounds are an amazing combination of palm trees, cactus, and many other plants as well as beautiful fountains and walkways. The self-guided tours give you plenty of time to stroll through this beautiful place. Note that women and men have clothing guidelines that are strictly followed. See their website before visiting.

McFarland State Historic Park

The history of the park's building provides visitors with a look into the past. The building represents a transition between Sonoran and Anglo-American architecture with its wood-shingled pitched roof surmounting traditional adobe brick walls. Like most buildings in Territorial Arizona, the original 1878 structure was constructed by hand using native materials. Soil from the area was used to make adobe bricks which were laid on a trench foundation filled with river rocks. All lumber for the floors and roof was hauled by wagon from northern Arizona.

We stopped here because we were told of the history and the incredible renovation of this old building. When we got inside we were not disappointed. We asked the staff a few questions and the County Planner (i think?) came out and gave us a marvelous tour of the building...told us old stories of what all had occurred, showed us where you could look out a window and see the spot where hangings occurred. He was a wonderful story teller and made the visit a great stop!

Tom Mix Memorial

Statue and plaque at the spot Tom Mix died. Someone has a box with a guest log in it and a stack of copies of the newspaper article when it was dedicated. Nice place to stop but be advised there are no restrooms or water.
