We did self guided tour after obtaining map from Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce.
Each church was remarkable, very serene with a thousand whispers of the love and care put into the stenciling and free handed painting.
There is very little PR (signage?) for these churches. It feels as if you are a on a pilgrimage. The tall steeples rise up over the trees and gently rolling hills, the venues are peaceful with the sounds of birds and cicadas. It was wonderful.
We didn't give enough notification for a guided tour but the map and google obliged us with a good amount of information.
We highly recommend this tour

Hairgrove Saddlery is housed out of an old 1870's livery stable that has been lovingly restored by proprietor's Jeff and Kathy Hairgrove. Right behind the old Olle Hotel, they create beautiful one-of-a-kind leather goods, art, and ecclectic goodies. A must see if you are visiting Flatonia.

Yes we walked to each outdoor shrine/grotto and read the markers. Each was lovely, we saw cardinals, mockingbirds and robins among the huge oak trees. We read the outdoor milestones markers and hope a labyrinth might be a way to commemorate the next one.

I found owner, Lynn Kancaba, friendly and inviting. Her business was not open the day I strolled by, but she graciously allowed me to browse. Her husband, Ronnie, takes all manners of items and turns them into clocks. I was able to purchase a very nice Coke metal sign. She has very interesting plants on the porch. The shop is fun and full of unique items. If in the area, stop by and give a family owned business your support.

This general store, in operation since the 1880's, has only a few items for sale.
I grew up near Flatonia and can remember going into Arnim and Lane when I was a little kid, but had not spent any time there for several years. I returned only to find out the store has been closed for a decade.

Everything in this church sparkles since it has been newly restored. You can even still smell the paint. I was not very impressed with this church back in 1997 when I took the painted churches tour, but I am absolutely blown away now.
It is located west of Schulenburg on FM 1295 just off (north of) of Hwy 90.
Unlike many of the other painted churches, which are wooden on the outside, this one is stone. It really is a beautiful building, inside and out.
This church is accessible if you do not purchase a tour.

This antique shop offers many Victorian items.
Closed but there is another nice shop down the street.
The Lyric Theater started out around 1913 as the home for the movies and shows in Flatonia. If became The Lyric Theater in 1930. In 1952 it received a major renovation. Unfortunately in 1967 it showed its "last" movie Beach Blanket Bingo. Reopened in 2017, The Lyric Theater is once again ready to welcome new patrons thru its doors!
