What to do and see in Finger Lakes, Finger Lakes: The Best Distilleries

February 13, 2022 Roseanne Arnett

New York’s Finger Lakes region takes its name from 11 freshwater lakes placed like a handprint between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania border. Skiing, hiking and biking trails traverse the landscape; visitors can also indulge in various wine, cheese and beer trails. The area offers a culinary bounty, with an emphasis on farm-to-table cuisine. Rich history and culture are found throughout the region, with one attraction more inviting than the next.

Black Button Distilling

We are Rochester NY's first and finest craft distillery since prohibition. Located at the Rochester Public Market making only the finest Vodka, Gin and Whiskey from New York State grains. Since 1922 my family has provided some of the finest men's suit buttons available. For Four generations these buttons have closed suits worn by Presidents, Popes, Kings, and Businessmen the world over. From a young age I went to work in my grandfather's factory but it was clear I was meant for a different path. I broke tradition and decided to make whiskey, but the lessons I learned in his factory as a kid still guide me to this day; work hard, work with your hands, make your product the best on the market, and you can't cheat time. My distillery pays homage to my grandfather and the world he knew - where real men worked hard and drank real pot distilled whiskey. My name is Jason Barrett, I started my craft distillery at 24 years old, and I love distilling. I hope you will try our small batch, grain to glass spirits and join me in raising a glass to Living Large in Small Batches.

Black Button Lilac Gin is incredibly smooth and flavorful! Unlike the popular national brands such as Tanqueray and Bombay, I can enjoy Black Button's Lilac Gin on ice alone or with a squeeze of fresh lime. When I add tonic water it's hard to control the urge to drink it down like iced tea or lemonade on a blistering hot day.

Our kids are in their 20s we decided to take their father to 1911 What a great place to go We went to tasting room and sampled the hard cider gin and vodka. Very inexpensive for time the bartender spent w us. Great flavors to try and enjoyable. Then went to the tavern for lunch unexpected surprise food was hot and delicious not only the food was good but excellent drinks to choose from as well. They have musicians playing and I guess they had a concert there last night. As we're sitting there. 2 of their sponsored stock cars pull up. we had to check them out as well Quick stop in the general store for homemade fudge n doughnuts. We walked out happy n enjoying the view. Find this place and go. You won't be disappointed

Came across this by accident so stopped for a sample. Beautiful gift shop with a tasting area for the bourbon. Bought bourbon and moonshine for gifts with great recipes for mixing them.

Doug & James are great hosts; however Finley, their dog, may have been even better. The guys tested out their spirits & the gals had hot drinks, where we tried each other's, & every single one was DELISH! They had a fire going outside which added to their phenomenal view. Seriously, a must stop when you're in the Finger Lakes -- You will not be disappointed.

Staff was amazing and friendly. Out of this world cocktails and fig liquor. Love love love! The owner took the time to talk to us about his process for making the alcohol. Small batches and love in every batch! The fig liquor is like nothing you will taste anywhere else.
