New York’s Finger Lakes region takes its name from 11 freshwater lakes placed like a handprint between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania border. Skiing, hiking and biking trails traverse the landscape; visitors can also indulge in various wine, cheese and beer trails. The area offers a culinary bounty, with an emphasis on farm-to-table cuisine. Rich history and culture are found throughout the region, with one attraction more inviting than the next.

If you like history, beauty and sightseeing in general, you will like the FIVE ARCH BRIDGE. There is a path that goes down to the water. Swimming and wading is prohibited, but people were in the water, which is not very deep.

Enjoy exploring on original towpaths on over five miles of beautiful nature trails that was once part of the original Erie Canal, the Enlarged Erie Canal and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. Located in the Town of Montezuma along the Seneca River/NYS Barge Canal, the 160-acre Montezuma Heritage Park also contains the historic remains of the second largest aqueduct, the original Clinton's Ditch Lock 62, a paper mill, dry dock, and the Cayuga-Seneca Lock 11 that tells the story of the development of New York State's first major transportation system. The magnificent Richmond Aqueduct with 31 original arches carried the Erie Canal waters spanning the Seneca River, built in 1849. Seven of these arches and their related piers and abutments remain today as a testimony of this magnificent engineering feat. The middle section of the aqueduct was removed in 1917 to make way for the new New York Barge Canal System that opened in 1918. Located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State, hiking, biking, birding, and cross country skying are enjoyed here year around. The site is on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Seneca River Crossing Canals Historic District.

This place is temporarily closed.
This was quite lovely with parking right nearby. When I got halfway across, I felt some tremors -- not unusual for a suspension bridge. It was my first time and I really enjoyed it.

It’s a Wonderful life is my all time favorite movie. It is not known for sure that Frank Capra modeled this movie off of Seneca Falls but the town does have a striking resemblance. I could definitely see this as Bedford Falls. The bridge does remind me of the movie and has George Bailey Ln., Bedford Falls Blvd., and Clarence St. signs on the bridge. Along with a bell hanging from the bridge. This reminds me of the movie. Worth stopping to see if you’re in the area. It is right off of the Main Street and next to a small park.
