The oldest university in the world isn’t Oxford or the Sorbonne—it’s the University of Al-Karaouine, and you’ll find it in Fes el Bali. This walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will transport you back to medieval times. Visit the ancient maze-like quarters of the Medina to Fes el-Bali and the four imposing Gates of Fes, with their distinctive Moroccan tile work. You can walk, or, if you're brave, take a taxi—the daredevil drivers will have you hanging on for dear life.

The carpet shop, Coin Berbère, owned by the Bouzidi-Idrissi family, has existed for about 60 years and was one of the first carpet stores in Fez, The store owes its reputation to the work of a wise father has his sons
We had a fantastic experience buying our first Moroccan carpet at Coin Berber. We were made to feel comfortable from the beginning - it was clear that there was no pressure to buy, and Abdul genuinely wanted us to find the right carpet for us. Very knowledgable and passionate. Would highly recommend Coin Berber for anyone wanting high quality carpet at a reasonable price, as well as an authentic, enjoyable buying experience.

This shop was a lovely find! The calm atmosphere and no haggling was a very welcomed change from the souks outside in the medina! We got some great, unique items for ourselves and some cool pieces for family back home. Definitely stop by this shop if you’re looking for quality unique items!

Skip the Médina and head straight here. No bargaining but honest and affordable prices. Purchased the vast majority of our goods and gifts here. Adil ships or delivers to your hotel if you can’t carry it. Worth the walk from the Médina as it’s a tour of a new neighborhood away from tourists and their inflated prices!

We came to Morocco wanting to buy an authentic Morocco rug to take back to Australia but we weren’t sure if would be able to afford one. We randomly stumbled across Idriss shop amongst the alleyways of Fez. Idriss was so welcoming and never pressured us to purchase anything. It was our lucky day as we were shown our dream carpet and the price was perfect. We celebrated with some mint tea of course. Can totally recommend buying from Idriss and make sure you go direct to his shop and not through a guide as he will have to pay commission which also means the price will be higher for you!! Thank you

After meeting Amen on my walk around the medina, he took me to Maze of Fez where he was sure I could find a gift. Instead; I left with an absence of ignorance which I had entered with, and a momento for myself which I will cherish for years to come. Abdullah was more than just a salesman as he took time to educate me on the process of how these amazing carpets came to be. I was naive to think that a rug could not hold any cultural importance, but the stories he told me of one women and her creativity in hand crafting these carpets proved me wrong and bought me a new found respect for Morocco's capital for crafts! I left with a beautiful rug made from sheep wool and camel fur. Thank you for this experience and good luck with the family business!
