Museo Branca

The Branca Collection Museum is a fascinating journey through the story of one of the longest standing Milanese family companies: Fratelli Branca Distillerie. It was set up by the firm, partly as an expression of family pride, but the museum is about much more than the history of a business: it is a place where the "means of production" are a form of expression, a sophisticated medium that reveals the way the firm grew out of the territory. The museum sets out to tell the story of Branca, in Italy and throughout the world, in terms of its traditional roots and later entrepreneurial evolution and, on the more practical side, the painstaking care that goes into gathering and processing the raw materials, such as the herbs and spices that come from four continent. The collection includes a unique showcase of rare spices - all the more fascinating for its location, inside the looming spaces of the Branca factory, the only one still operational in the heart of Milan. The Branca Collection Museum has been ten years in the making: selecting the exhibits, cataloguing and showcasing them. It totals over 1,000 sq. m and is located within the original factory premises in Via Resegone, Milan. The result is a captivating collection of objects and graphics, posters by acclaimed artists and story boards from promotional campaigns in the 1970s and 80s. There are also mortars, flasks and stills, the alchemical instruments enhanced by the magical aromas of the herbs and spices they transformed. The tour ends in the most alluring and fascinating place in the factory: the cellars, where the distillates are aged in ancient oak casks. These include the huge "mother cask" for Stravecchio Branca, with a capacity of over 83,000 litres, one of the largest in Europe. The museum is open for guided tours by reservation or invitation, to groups of no more than 25, on the following days: • Monday at 10 am and at 3 pm. • Wednesday at 10 am and at 3 pm. • Friday at 10 am and at 3 pm.
