I came to this part of the world to see these wonderful trees. We spent an entire day touring this road except for side trips suggested by a ranger. We went on one dirt road that allowed us to get up close to the trees without having to get out of your car. This is a really beautiful place to visit.

Really nice nice little Zoo. I had no idea that we would find something as pretty and as well preserved as we did here in Eureka. Good selection of animals and the grounds are really well taken care of and maintained. Lots of things to keep the kids entertained and also to provide some learning. Well worth the trip if you're here for a visit.

The Carson Mansion is a highlight of Eureka CA and Humboldt County in particular. At this time of year (December), it is brilliantly-lit with many many strings of Christmas lights and is amazingly beautiful. Add to that the supermoon and it was a definite must-see this week. We had the great pleasure of getting inside for a special event and were treated to a top-quality meal, outstanding service and the ability to see the insides of this special Victorian structure decorated to the hilt for the holidays. Absolutely lovely. Please note that, unless you are a member of the Ingomar Club, entry is not allowed - but it's worth seeing from the outside!

We live minutes from Humboldt bay, it's beautiful natural setting is one of California's
Best places! It's 14 miles long and its 41/2 miles wide at its widest part. It's also the second largest bay on the west coast!
Originally used to bring tens of thousands to the Trinity Gold country, then for logging for many decades. Its also the largest Oyster production on the west coast. About half of all California's Oysters are farmed here! It's a bird watchers paradise along with fishing, crabbing, sailing, and much more! As you travel Highway 101 through our area note the true size and beauty of HUMBOLDT BAY!

Went there for a community film showing. It was delightful...lots of families and people of all ages with picnics. Live music entertainment and a singer before the feature film. A real treat. No recycling bins, which is odd, but otherwise a great spot.

We decided to take a tour, which we enjoyed. LC was started by an interesting woman named Barbara and has had great success in the US and abroad. No free samples but 4 - 4 ounce tasters are $5.00. The homemade root beer is a bit expensive ($2.25 for a small glass, probably just 10 ounces) but a hit with our son. Recommended activity.

The Elk River Trail through the Headwaters Forest Reserve is a great way to experience an easy hike through second-growth forest, and it's only about ten minutes from Eureka. The first mile of the trail is relatively flat, wide, and paved, making it extremely wheel-friendly (including strollers and wheelchairs). This portion of the trail takes you through the site of the former logging town of Falk, and ends at what was once "downtown." The town is completely gone, as are the old growth redwood trees, but the informational signs along the way give a fascinating history of the place, and it's fun to spot the remnants. It's also awe-inspiring to see how the forest is growing back--and how! The unpaved portion of the trail eventually takes you to the remaining old-growth redwood forest, which is an incredible experience.

Absolutely no surface on the roads, no more than a dirt track in places. No cell phone coverage. Visitors should be warned that unless they are driving an all terrain vehicle they should avoid this area. Even our GPS told us to turn back because of dangerous roads ! No service station encountered on the 24 miles in and 24 miles back out from Ferndale. The guidebooks should tell people this.....just because a "road" exists to this place doesnt mean you should go there

Driving down the main drag in Eureka (Route 101), the town looks rather commercial and cheesy. If you venture further down to the marina area, the shops improve and there's restaurants and a short boardwalk that you can walk on. There's short boat rides from the marina, but we were there off season. I think the rides start in May. Would like to try that some time.

A museum specializing in Humboldt County history with numerous Native American artifacts.
This museum is located in Old Town. It is $5 donation for adults. The museum is not large. It tells of history of Eureka, logging, WWII, and the Indians and Chinese that were in the area. There are also displays of baskets hand made by...MoreThank you so much for visiting! We hope to see you again soon!
