The majestic and peaceful Abbey of Notre-Dame-du-Bec stands in the heart of the Bec valley, on the banks of the narrow river that gives the site its name. This charming abbey, which has once again housed a community of Benedictine monks since 1948, features some of the finest ecclesiastical architecture of the 17th and 18th century. The tour includes the cloister, the 15th century bell tower of Saint-Nicolas, the monastic quarters, the abbey church and concludes with a display of crafts and artefacts made by the monks. The village of Bec - Hellouin is a gem and rightly vaunted as one of France's prettiest. We arrived and were luckily able to park near the abbey in what is a relatively small car park. There was no charge and one was almost immediately struck by the peace and calm that enveloped the whole situation. Through the main gates was the separated bell tower, a building with a small shop and a small walk away the church, which was the epitomy of simplicity. It pervaded a calmness and a quiet that was perversely so tangible. A truly lovely place and one can well understand why it is a practicing monastery. The shop contains a variety of products from a number of monasteries including jams, wines etc some ceramics made at the abbey, books and a good selection of cd's and proved an excellent way to make a contribution.

Very quiet, serene and charming place. It literally offers you to stay alone with the history and feel the old spirit. It is a good place for family/couple visits. Caramel cookings and children workshops are a nice (and tasty!) adding to the visit. It's very important to come in the right moment with good weather (not always in Normandy) to enjoy the gardens and the park. In that case, this place is worth to spend in the whole day.

This private domain opens its doors to you! With one of the most beautiful parks in Europe, a castle inspired by Le Vau’s masterpieces and the exceptional historical collections, the Château du Champ de Bataille is rightly nicknamed the « Normandie’s Versailles » by the visitors. The decorator Jacques Garcia has given it back all its luster.
