My partner and me hiked across the Bale Mountains for 10 days and were so happy to be guided by Mohamed, best tour guide (also best arabic football commentator :D) EVER. He has so much knowledge about wildlife, you can easily tell his job is his passion. Also great birding knowledge. Don't really get some of the reviews here: Yeah, hiking can be exhausting and nature can be windy and cold or sunburn you. What do you expect? Wildlife will not come to visit you in a five star hotel, you have to go wild for it :). And Bale will reward you: We saw the wolves, even pups, eagles, vultures, a serval cat, nyalas, warthogs, antilopes, mole rats, bale vervets, colobus monkeys, baboons and millions of endemic birds and plants. Mohamed definitely knows the all secret spots and was always eager to avoid the crowded areas which we really appreciated. I will never forget our funny evenings at the camp fire and Obsenet Lodge! Dema dema dema... Galatomi for everything Mohamed. I'd give SIX stars if I could!

The Barta Waterfalls are situated close to Bonga in the Kaffa region of Ethiopia, the main coffee growing area of the country. We returned here for a third visit with our guide Dagi of Quest Ethiopia Tours (licensed tour operator) who we highly recommend using and who was really thorough in working out yet another interesting itinerary for us. To reach the waterfall, you walk for about 1.8km through beautiful countryside with tall eucalyptus trees and verdant green meadows, dotted with grazing cows and lush green false banana. The path snakes along the hillside, passing immaculately kept tukuls with neatly swept yards and flower laden shrubs, until finally you can hear the rush of the water cascading 70m down the fern-covered rock face and into the deliciously cool water below. This time, the volume of water had increased considerably after the small rains compared to our previous visit in January. It is a really peaceful and pretty spot, well worth factoring a few hours into your itinerary to explore. We also visited a nearby market and stopped at a small village tedj house for a refreshing glass or two of locally brewed honey-made wine which was delicious, poured from a little plastic teapot into a cup and washed down with good humour and excellent company! There is also a coffee museum on the road between the falls and Bonga main town. I really hope we will be able to return again one day.

Zoma Museum is a dream inspired 25 years ago by the timeless and structurally sound vernacular architecture of Ethiopia and other parts of the world. The Museum aims to bring traditional construction techniques into the present, demonstrating their ability to withstand time while maintaining their grace and beauty. Facilities includes a gallery, a library, a children center, a botanical garden, a school, an amphitheater and a gift shop. Future development plans also include an art and vernacular architecture school.
Visitors and residents of Addis Ababa with young children often find it challenging to find reasonably priced, suitable, safe green -space, holiday-season edutainment options. Fortunately, Zoma Museum is one of the excellent exceptions, and after today’s visit, I will place it in my top 3 recommendations for parents with young children visiting or living in Addis Ababa. My party of 3 adults and 2 young children found the under 600 Birr entry price quite reasonable, especially as we had just forked out 2400 to visit Unity Park 2 days before. Foreigners will breathe a sigh of relief not to be gouged with an additional fee like in so many of the cities quality attractions. After some fascinating photography and artwork amidst a lush tropical ambiance, my children immediately gravitated to the art cabin where developmentally appropriate-sized furniture and ample art supplies were available for small children to create, collaborate, communicate and connect. We had to drag the kids kicking and screaming out of the art hut but they soon settled down when they heard the Christmas music and saw other children enjoying sliding, jumping, twirling, blowing bubbles, etc on the central green space area, which featured inflatable jumping equipment, pictures with Santa, and of course, plenty of vendors to help separate that hard earned cash form parents pockets! Continuing on our merry way, we found ourselves surrounded by more lush greenery behind the central area as we entered the edible garden area. As an educator myself, I found the edible classroom concept particularly interesting and my children marveled at the numerous garden setups during our tour of the garden. The young students who attend the Zoma Museum school are truly fortunate indeed. After our garden tour we continued wandering around the many pathways and taking in all the scenery. Unlike so many other venues in the city, bathrooms at Zoma were plentiful and exceedingly clean. Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon of engaging developmentally appropriate, culturally informative entertainment. Zoma Museum. especially during their special seasonal event days is simply a must-see and must-do for all parents with young children in Addis Ababa!

A royal fortress-city dating back to the 16th-17th centuries demonstrates Hindu, Arabic and baroque influences.
The main highlight in Gondar. A cluster of 6 castles, library, Royal Thermal Bath and Lion cages. The biggest castle for Emperor Fasiledes 1632-1667. Next castle for his son, and the third for his grand son. A great Archive building used to be a library. The castles were constructed almost 400 years ago in a strategic location, surrounded by mountains with tower guards, a hilly area so free from malaria. A must visit place.

Birhanu is THE BEST !!! For many years, he has been organizing boat tours with us , for me and my friends, also good for children and teenagers ! He is a very safe boat driver, the boats are in excellent condition, he is attentionate, careful, very reliable and he takes a lot of time to to allow you to do birdwatching, hippos watching, on the way to the different islands and monastries. This museum is a must see, if you are in Jinka. It displays items used by the different ethnic groups in Omo Valley and gives a lot of information on local customs in English.

We visited this place just 2 days before Timket festival so it was all decked out in beautiful Ethiopian flags. It was an interesting place to visit and I would say a must-see during your time in Gondar. There are also some beautiful strangler fig trees on many of the structures which to me was reminiscent of the temples of Angkor Wat. If you have an extra hour or two, don't miss Fasiladas Bath!

Little cute place in the montage, 40 min from Arba Minch, stubbing views, try local made alcohol and watch how they make local food.

Harar is an amazing, unique city and one of the highlights of our five-month overland trip across Africa. It's full of life and we were lucky to experience it with no other tourists due to the Covid-19 crisis. It is a place where you discover something new around every corner. A guide can provide a great deal of context and history, as well as ensuring you don't miss the key sites; we were with Joel for two days who was fantastic. We saw numerous facets of the city, including the fascinating markets, hyena feeding, a coffee roastery, a blacksmith, some great local cafes and met some of Joel's friends. Joel was extremely knowledgeable and good company, and charged a fair price unlike some of the other guides we asked. His details are 0909623864 and [email protected].
