Walked to Stanley Ghyll from Dalegarth Station, there could be slightly better signs - I'm glad we had an ordance survey map as there are lots of walks, and it can be a little confusing exactly which path you need to take. A lovely walk up through the gorge, but it can be slippy in places as you climb. Take your time, and it is perfectly manageable. The last section to the actual waterfall is closed off due to risk of falling rocks, so you can't get a good view of the actual waterfall. It is still a good family walk, and not too busy.

It feels steeper to walk up Hardknott than it does when driving! There are a few trails that diverge from the road but it’s not as if it’s busy, and you can see cars coming from far away. One you reach Hardknott Fort (if you walked there; there does appear to be car parking) then you’ll be able to explore in peace and serenity. Plenty places to sit and have a well earned sandwich before trekking back down.

Eskdale Mill is the oldest water powered corn mill in the Lake District National Park. Dating back to the 1500's, this unique gem consists of Grade 2* listed buildings with waterwheels and milling machinery as well as a newly installed interactive exhibition, hydro powered waterwheel and self-guided tour for people of all ages and abilities. With a woodland area next to Whillan Beck and its cascades, this is a relaxing and interesting visit for all of the family. Learn how oats, barley and wheat was milled in Boot until the 1930's and find out more about the history of Eskdale valley.
Well worth a visit; helpful staff, beautifully restored telling the story of the Mill and interesting facts about the local area. The cascades were amazing the day we visited and the outside area kept the children amused for ages. Highly recommend a visit. Lots to see and do in this lovely village.

It takes a special place to implement (brilliantly) all the anti-virus stuff and still deliver great food, and above all a great atmosphere with fabulous service. We arrived with our large dog after a long and muddy day's walking and could not have been made more welcome. The food was excellent, and we will certainly be back soon. Thanks to all the staff for making our visit so memorable.
