Explore Swakopmund with your private tour guide. Swakopmund is a German settlement on the coast of Namibia from the 1892's to just before the first world war. Situated 30km north of Walvis Bay in the mouth of the Swakop river, this town has really beautiful surroundings. Light-heartedly referred to as "Little Germany" by many travelers, the building style in the old part of town is distinctly German. Gaze at the majestic dune belt along the way to Swakopmund, with a short visit to Dune 7 where you can touch and see the sand up close. Once in Swakopmund, as you have a wide variety of things to do. You can choose between the Railway Station, the Steam Tractor "Martin Luther", the Swakopmund museum at the lighthouse, or the Krystall Gellerie, home of the largest quartz crystal. Please remember that if you want to buy any curios in Swakopmund that you will need a copy of your passport Last on your agenda is the coastal highway It's quite a memorable place, so bring your camera!

With three extra days in Namibia, I decided to include a quick trip to Etosha. I struggled to find a company that was still operational, and met my needs. Then I chatted with Megan, representative with Across Africa. I quickly knew she was actually interested in helping. Her sincerity, honesty, humanity and dedication were recognized immediately, and I knew that I didn’t need to search further. She set up my trip with no hidden BS, made an effort to meet all my needs, and did all of it promptly, professionally, and graciously. My trip turned out perfectly down to the last detail. I credit Megan and my guide Steve for making my quick visit to Etosha unforgettable. Because of them I will use Across Africa in the future and suggest to others that they do the same!

Rising above the flat, grassy plains of Namibia, Spitzkoppe is the place where the San, better known and Bushmen, made their home centuries ago. Spitzkoppe is fine example of the inselberg type that is typical of this area, it is one of Namibia's mayor attractions. You are picked up from your accommodation in Walvis Bay or Swakopmund with the tour vehicle. There are many stops along the way to Spitzkoppe that makes this whole day journey fun and interesting. There are many facilities at Spitzkoppe, as well as wonderful rock formations. You will have ample time to explore and photograph the natural rock arch, the rock pool and the Matterhorn. The rock art around Spitzkoppe will be explained to you by a local guide with in-depth knowledge. At the end of the tour you will see the fishing holiday town of Henties bay, and the Zeila shipwreck. Local Experirnce in Swakopmund ,Mondesa was the exiled neighborhood where blacks were sidelined during apartheid , while whites and rich were concentrated in the city center. Although the system of racial segregation was abolished in 1991, it is still possible today to observe the traces of this dark part of history. You will stroll through the streets of Mondesa, discovering its culture. You will see the kindness of the people, who will not hesitate to welcome you and invite you to taste one of their craft beers or some of their typical dishes , such as mopane worms (grilled caterpillars). During the visit, you can enjoy other traditional dishes, so that your cultural immersion is complete. In addition, you can interact with locals and immerse yourself in the heart of African culture and history. You will have the opportunity to learn a few words in khoe-khoe , the local language, and understand the meaning of the term " buntu" . Do you know why he is so important today in Africa?

We were tired from extensive touring (three travelers) and thought of skipping this township visit. Are we glad we decided to join Nande Junia's 1/2 day explorer tour! Our guide was kind, informative, and had planned an interesting visit to one of Namibia's townships. "Township" being the local explanation in Africa for a town/village of minimally economic development. For the poorest citizens, basically with outdoor plumbing, very small living area, and few services. Here in Namibia, in this community, we discovered that Swakopmund was well maintained and harbored many interesting sights. Entrepreneurship all around, from the ladies who taught "clicking" to tourists to the a capella choir, singing for us during our homemade lunch in another house, we spent 4 hours being captivated by this slice of Africa. I recommend heartily this tour group. First-class all the way.

This was a fantastic 21 days spent when we joined up with a group of 4 others and our guide, who was exceptional in our experiences of nature-oriented travel. Batis Birding is a family run operation which ensures that every aspect of the time spent is well supported, used wisely and professionally and with thoughtfulness for the differing requirements and expectations of their clients so that everyone achieved their goals of what they hoped to see, hear and photograph and always in constant safety. The transport, accomodation and meals were consistently of high quality and ensured a convivial time at the end of each day. H&J Brooke

Swakopmund, known as the prime holiday resort of Namibia, was founded in August 1892 by the German Colonial Reich. For many years this town was the main harbour for the territory, being served by the mole and later the jetty. Both these structures still exist. Many historical buildings dating from that area are still being used and are rated as historical monuments. The distinct German Colonial character of Swakopmund has been well preserved and is undoubtedly a key attraction for tourists and entrepreneurs. The walking tour of Historical Swakopmund concentrates on the historical part of Swakopmund. Your guide will relate the history of Swakopmund and explain the origin of the various historical buildings in town. These include the Woermannhaus, a superb example of early architecture, Prinzessin-Rupprecht-Heim, a striking reminder of the way of life of the early years, and the Marine Memorial, a monument of superb detail.

We enjoyed our day trip tour to the Spitzkoppe with Hans. He has a wealth of knowledge and stories of both the local area, Namibia and the Spitzkoppe itself. Hans navigated very well the drive from Swakopmund to the Spitzkoppe (approx 2.5 hours) with what was some very entertaining traffic in both directions due to a long weekend. Hans offered to stop several times on the way into the National Park for pictures which was fantastic. We enjoyed the homemade lunch provided as well.
